University of Utah
« on: March 17, 2008, 04:41:33 PM »
I just got waitlisted at the University of Utah law school. I'm stunned. It's odd to me how I can get a $10,000/year scholarhip at Ohio State, $24,000/year at Pepperdine etc. and get waitlisted at Utah. I guess it's my fault for being a white, middle-class male.

You are a much better candidate than I am, so I'll probably get rejected by Utah.  I hope I hear from them soon.

I was accepted to a T2 school and I got a great scholarship from a pretty good T3, but then a week later I got waitlisted by two T4 schools.  I don't really understand it.

I don't know where you're coming from, but must it be about race and class?

If so, I'm sure the displaced children of Darfur pity your plight.

If you have any better ideas I'd be glad to hear them. I'm not trying to be sassy. I really, really don't know why I was waitlisted, and I can't figure anything else except that I'm not "diverse" enough.

Yeah, it's surprising, and kudos on your volunteering background.  I'm eager to hear if other's have insight, too.

Aguilar is very approachable.  If you are able and interested, perhaps it would be worthwhile to establish a relationship with him -- if it is genuine, even go as far as asking if you can talk with current students, attend an admitted students' event, etc.

cir - it looks like a lot of people on lsn who should be getting accepted are getting wl'd.  I don't know what the deal is, but it doesn't look too good for me.
did your status checker ever change beyond complete?

On the topic of race discrimination in admissions, the US Supreme Court has ruled twice on the issue (it's nice to work at a law firm so I can ask them about this stuff).
