Scholarship Lobbying?
« on: March 16, 2008, 01:56:59 PM »
I know that there are other threads about this, but they all seem pretty old. Has anyone attempted this with any success this year? I am considering trying this with fairly large scholarships from slightly lower ranked schools to get anything at all from a higher ranked one.

Yes. As long as you appear a strong candidate, there is a good chance they will respond to your request.

I negotiated a different scholarship renewal requirement (originally they said top 25% to renew it, dropped it to top 50%.)

Thanks for your responses! What is the most effective way to do this? Call/email/letter by carrier pigeon?

It was successful for me at some schools.

I used email, as it allows you to present a coherent argument why you deserve a scholarship, it's less awkward for both parties, and it allows them to think about it.

They called me, asked if I was still considering them and if I had any concerns. Perfect opening.  ;)

I did it by e-mail to two schools and both responded that they would consider me but I haven't heard anything yet.  (I did this about a week ago)  I think calling can be a little awkward because it puts them on the spot.

I emailed one school 2 weeks ago and they gave me an offer today.
