Law Students: Which laptop do you recommend????

Get whatever is cheaper. You dont need much to run word and internet explorer.

Regardless of what laptop you get, here is my advice to you and everybody on this board. And really listen when I tell you this. Are you listening?

DON'T FORGET TO BACK UP EVERYTHING ON YOUR HARD DRIVE!!!

Do it every day if you can. At the absolute least, once per week. You have no idea how many sob stories I heard while in law school from people that forgot to back up their notes, outlines, draft final exams, moot court briefs, etc. Did you forget already?

BACK EVERYTHING UP ON A CONSTANT BASIS!

You will thank me.

um, yeah, i don't know about that ... i guess the risk is that if you don't have some strict regime then you'll suffer?

I can personally attest to the importance of backing up.  I had 15 pages of my master's thesis erased because I didn't back up.

Just wanted to say how excited I am that my Mac is supported at my school...I love that thing...and - you can buy an external hardrive pretty cheap at Office Depot..($120?)  and this thing has saved me on more than one occasion.

Anyone have any experience yet with the new Macbook Air or Lenovo X300?  I am trying to decide between the two.  the x300 gets better performance reviews on cnet but its $1,000 more.  The only things I don't like about the Macbook Air is that there's no Disc drive, only 1 usb port, and no removable battery.  However, I'm not sure I want to pay 1,000 more for the extra features which are just luxuries that I would consider less important than the size and performance, which are about equal.
