Isn't he playing a WHITE actor who acts black for a movie? I don't see why that would be offensive. The whole acting like another race has been done many times, hasn't it? (White chicks, etc.?)

this is not offensive to me.  It reminds me of when everyone got pissed @ Angelina Jolie for playing a biracial woman.

Well, I don't know much about it, but I saw the picture, and I think he looks pretty good as a black man (then I'm rather fond of RDJ).
As for Angelina playing a biracial woman - well that smacks of her being so self centered that she thought she couldn't conceive of anyone playing the role but her.
When you have somebody dying because they are poor and black or poor and white or because of whatever they are ... that erases everything that's great about this country.

Seems like it's no more offensive than Dustin Hoffman in Tootsie.  :-\

I can see how it could be offensive, especially if it's done in a stereotypical manner.  It's not like a man acting like a woman or even a black person acting as a white person because of the history of the U.S. and the movie/entertainment industry.  Minstrel shows (white men portraying black men) were a significant form of entertainment early in the entertainment industry.  They were extremely stereotypical and offensive, with exaggerated make-up and exaggerated mannerisms.  Watch "Birth of a Nation" to see what it was all about.  You can also google "minstrel show" or "blackface".

Having said that i dont know much about this movie.  I'm only saying that it could potentially be offensive.

I'm confused.  I thought he was playing a white actor who plays a black character in the film within the film.  This is not per se offensive (though it could be done in an offensive way, I'm sure).  As such, it's just Tootsie or whatever, like everyone else has said.
That's cool how you referenced a case.

Not offensive to me.  Don't really know anything about the movie but if his character is supposed to be black, why didn't they get a black actor to play it?
