UC Hastings vs. University of Illinois Urbana Champagne

Any info on either of these schools would be nice.  I'm a reach for both schools but if accepted to both which should I pick?  I want to get into corporate/big firm law.  Any opinions?

To be honest, you should probably wait to ask this question until after you're accepted. After all, there's no use in worrying over something that's only a potential possibility.

Also, the crux of your decision is going to end up on where you want to practice. If you want California, go to Hastings. If you want Chicago or surrounding areas, go to UIUC.

Hastings is only better if you want to work in CA.

I would really think hard about this whole situation before going to either school if I were you.  It doesn't sound like you're very prepared to deal with not making top quarter at either place, and there's a 75% chance that will happen.

I agree... I could post "Duke vs. Cornell" but I'm not wasting my time until I get an actual decision. It's good that you're considering your choices, but don't fall into the trap of counting your chickens before they're hatched.

That being said, they're in such disparate locations, you really can't get much more different than Urbana-Champaign and San Francisco. I'd definitely choose UIUC over Hastings (I've applied to both of them, myself), but I'd much rather prefer to stay in this half of the country anyway.

Finally, not to be an ass or anything, but it's Champaign. Pronounced the same, but it's not the drink, nor the region in France.

Not true.  Its not like grades are a lottery where you have a 1 in 4 chance of getting a "winning" top quarter score.  Eveyone who gets into the class has an equal chance of finishing in the top 25%. 

Your particular matrix of talent, luck and effort (relative to everyone else's) will determine your spot.
