University of Maryland Scholarship Interview

Anyone else going?  Has anyone gone that wants to let us know what to expect?

Hey, I'll be attending too and I am also wondering what the format of the interview will be.  Do you know anything about the scholarship itself? I'm sure we'll hear more as the date approaches.

When did you guys get invited? Is it a special application thing? Maryland has not been communicating with me at all.

The letter inviting me to interview for scholarships arrived about a week after my acceptance letter. Have you tried calling or emailing the admissions office? I've found them to be helpful.

I don't know anything about the scholarship itself.  Every time I ask something, they just direct me to someone else or tell me information is coming.  I would really like to know what type of things they ask during a scholarship interview.  All I can think to compare it to is a job interview, and I can't imagine it will be the same at all.  I do think they said that during the day there is a mock class, a alumni or student panel (I can't remember which), and a reception, so I don't think they are going to be asking us questions all day long!

OnTheRoad- I got the scholarship invite at the same time as my acceptance.  It was in a separate envelope, but came either the same day or within a day or 2.

I will be there.  When I called, the woman on the phone told me that there are about 60 people there that day, and that the purpose is "to get to know you before giving you money."  She said there is a half hour interview, mock classes, an alumni panel, and a luncheon. After the interview day, the committee meets and then calls everyone the next day to let them know their scholarship amount.

Thanks, that is really helpful!  I'm so glad they will let us know so soon.  I was a little worried since the interview is so close to deposit deadlines.  Do you have any clue how many of the people get scholarships?  Do you know if the interview to decide who gets them, or how much we each get?

From the way she spoke to me, it sounded like most people who are invited get something, but it can depend on how much. My guess is that the purpose is to make sure that you are actually interested in Maryland before making a scholarship offer.

Are those of you who are going living in the Baltimore area?  Are you staying for the whole weekend?

I live in Baltimore so I will be staying in town for the whole weekend (at my house).  If anybody wants to go out around Baltimore Friday or Saturday night, I'd be happy to show people around.
