Since when is UF a "top public"?

Eh, technically its in the Top 10 public universities. I didn't put that on my profile though.

Um...it's the 17th ranked public.

I've already been corrected. *shrug* I wasn't trying to mislead.

Sweetie, then I don't think he used the word in the right context.

Oh I did use it correctly. He used one of the most intellectually bankrupt arguments I've ever encountered, "You aren't here so you can't judge." That annoys me. Unluckily for him, I have taken classes there and have family members who are tenured professors in the CLAS at UF. Even his argument of last resort failed.

I understand that. I just think it would be appropriate to let the thread die.

Honestly, what is with all the UF bashing? Public universities everywhere face massive budget constraints. In my past four years at Michigan, we've seen constant cuts in state funding and tuition hikes because the state legislature is pretty clueless. I guess that problem extends to Florida too.

But would anyone dare to argue that Michigan is no longer a great public institution because of a tightening budget? Universities (I assume UF included) are generally very good about maintaining the level of education they are known for even in the face of falling funds.

You might try to argue that Michigan is different because of its massive endowment, but you'd be wrong because Michigan has so far not dipped into that endowment to make up for lost state funds.

So ... in conclusion, public universities are pretty freakin amazing. I've never been to UF and I hate them for whining their way into the football title game a couple of years ago, but I'm sure it is still a fantastic academic institution. And an OK athletic institution  ;).

PS Complete at Duke since mid october and aint heard nothing. Of course I totally expect a rejection, but still...
