also WL at umich! i liked this part:
Receiving this email means that you are someone whom we would be glad to have in our entering class, but to whom we cannot extend an offer at this time because of the risk that our class will be overenrolled.
i thought it was a nice email.
however, i doubt I would go there over UPenn and CLS. I threw in an application in the middle of my January panic before I'd heard from either of those schools.
so no biggie. although it does hurt my acceptance rate

From the FAQ on their website:
"Indicating continuing interest and availability is a good way to stand out when you're on a waitlist. If you receive any new honors, awards, or grades, or get a new job or a promotion or take on a volunteer position, you should definitely let us know. If you would like to have an additional letter of recommendation submitted, that can be helpful as well. If nothing in your life has changed, but you want to indicate your ongoing interest, that alone can be helpful; feel free to send us a letter or e-mail. Again, because of the time constraints inherent in a waitlist, the last thing we want is to make a call to someone who is no longer interested in being called.
(To that end, if you decide you are no longer interested in being considered, we greatly appreciate your letting us know that.)"

However, I understood the email to be an OFFER to be on the waitlist, contingent upon filling out their form. So if I don't fill out their form, I've withdrawn and not placed on the waitlist. I didn't see a "if you aren't interested, let us know" on the form.

Also WLed at michigan. Wrote an LOCI, along with a 'why mich' after being deferred. Of course, I wrote it about wanting to go to a law school with a good football team, so I'm not sure it helped.

Also, I think that the way to interpret this is as "An offer to be on the WL" which you then sign up to do. Ignoring the email means declining the offer of going on the WL. ie: "You can't break up with me if I break up with you first." Leaning in this direction. From a quick scan, it looks like the deferrals going WL tend to have a CCN spot?
