Speaking of, I got an e-mail that seems to indicate I'm getting a LC lease if I want one.

This is a dumb question but can someone tell me what the bathroom situation is like in the LC? I know a lot of law students, and as a result I'm not real keen on the idea of seeing other law students naked. If it's a locker room kind of shower situation, that just might be a dealbreaker.

From what I can tell, there's a bathroom on every floor (of 4) and they alternate male/female by floor, so you might be lucky enough to have a bathroom on your floor or you might have to go down a floor.  There's two stalls and 2-3 showers in the bathrooms, if I remember correctly.  Note that the lc is divided into sections from A-J? (not sure the last letter), so the 1 per floor refers to the individual section, not the entire lc!

Ok then, to be perfectly blunt, if you aren't 100% sure what you want to do (and at this point, some folks are and some folks aren't) and/or don't have a particular reason for wanting Vandy beyond $, you really need to take a long hard look at your exit options from each law school, and which program will give you the most leeway for exploring what you think you want to do, as well as other things you just haven't run across yet.  And though I certainly respect Vandy as an institution, there's no way that you've got better options coming out of Vandy than from Michigan in pretty much any rubric you can think of.  I was thinking if you had a particular reason for wanting Vandy (family or the like), then maybe, or placement in Tennessee.  Actually hell, Michigan probably places better in Tennessee than Vandy does, if you go by %positions sought and obtained.
I do have family in Tennessee, but no real urge to live near them.  My sole consideration of Vanderbilt is based on rankings.

I know I want to do criminal prosecution, I'm just not sure if it's what I'll do right out of law school.

I just want to go to whatever school will give me the best employment possibilities in a broad sense. I have no preference of geography for law school or working, class size, setting, etc.  It's strictly a cost v. employment prospects scenario, but I still have no idea which is the better choice.

I have excellent credit, but I still can't bring myself to close off any routes without having a full economic picture.

If you have no geographic preferences, then Michigan is definitely the place to be.  We're from everywhere and go everywhere, so you'll have plenty of opportunities and won't be restricted geographically.

I'm not saying withdraw, if it'll make you feel more secure, but by the criteria you've listed, the choice is clear. ;)

(There're some good loan threads on here, if that's your thing - Moni's good at finding stuff and a financial whiz . . . you might wanna ask her about that.  Or Piggy, or GCoop, for that matter.)

That's me, btw.  Feel free to pm me if you have any questions or ask them here. I'll be around.

As I've said, serious misgivings about Mich.... but VANDY over Mich? Are you NUTS?

Hmm.  Are you just looking for people to talk you into Michigan?  Because that's not really how we roll.  One of the reasons that this community is special is that it's filled with people who are thrilled to be here, and in fact made an affirmative decision to do so over lots of other options.  If you're still moping about your many misgivings despite a full Darrow, then this is probably not the place for you.
I don't know about that.  Michigan does seem to be full of people that love it there, but they seem pretty good at talkig people into loving it too.

Yeah, but I think that's more about our enthusiasm being "the good kind of infectious" as opposed to us twisting people's arms.

But it's really a hard-knock life, getting the Darrow.  It's up to you guys to cheer those poor souls up.

<----Needs no cheering up.   ;D  I <3 Michigan.  I'm trying out this whole cold-and-snow winter thing while staying at my parents' for Christmas.  The cold's okay, but I clearly need better balance for walking on ice/slush...

That's where the proper boots come in.  I just got some wonderfully warm and wintry boots from endless.com and know i actually want to go slushing through piles of snow!  :D

I'm actually kind of surprised this thread isn't 300+ pages yet.  That's what happened the last time I looked away...

<----- doesn't live in the LC, spends a lot of time there though... :P

I don't think there's always a bathroom on every floor - I know over by L and surrounding blocks, there are two floors of guys, two of girls, and the bathrooms are on the 2nd and 3rd floors, so if you live on the top or bottom floor you have to go up/down for the bathroom. I actually think it's better to live on the floor that doesn't have the bathroom because it's quieter. But anyway, at least in some blocks, you share a bathroom with 7 other people of the same sex. In the ones I have seen there are 2 shower stalls and two bathroom stalls. That might seem like not enough for 8 people but I don't think it's a problem at all since everyone has different schedules. I don't think every block has the same bathroom configuration, but that's the one I know.

The LC showers are HOT and have awesome water pressure, fwiw... and they have curtains so no, you won't see anyone else naked unless they are walking down the hall and their towel slips or something :P
