I personally think it is good advice for anyone, with a 149 LSAT to take the test again.

From my observation, it seems being a URM helps the LSAT by a few points, so with a 149 he might be able to get into schools where a majority of people are 152s. However, I doubt it's going to get him accepted to a school where  most people score a high 150s to low 160s.
That is my opinion. I'm not an expert, but the OP is asking for opinions.

My point is that you were either stating an opinion on AA (which is what I originally took "shouldn't" to mean) or that you are saying that his URM probably won't be a major factor in his apps considering his LSAT score.

If it's the former, then I showed you stated an opinion on AA, if its the latter then you're clearly incorrect.

From the Michigan SCOTUS case, the defacto index boost ended up coming out to about 5 LSAT points and .1 GPA points.  Obviously this varies from school to school though.

Well, if you want to work in the public sector there may not be anything wrong with going to a third or fourth tier school. Some possible options are:

Howard University (DC)
District of Columbia (DC)
Mercer University (GA)(tier 2)
California Western (CA)
Chapman University (CA)
University of the Pacific (tier 2) (They have dipped into the upper 140's a couple of times)
Syracuse Law School (NY) (tier 2) (according to the ABA approved law school book: they have accepted 30 out of 151 students that have an LSAT of 145-149 and a GPA of 3.25-3.49)
Ultimately, there is hope for you at the bottom of the tier 2 rankings and possibly at some middle tier 2 schools. I am not sure but to be a public prosecutor or defender you do not really need a jurist doctorate from NYU but perhaps one from Mercer will be enough. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info!! This is very helpful

Hey Big C,
No biggie man, just check out the schools and also thier part time programs. You may have a better chance in getting into part-time programs rather than full time. I hear of ppl going part time first year and then transferring to full time. Some other schools though are:
Univ. of Denver (tier 2) (FT: LSAT 25%-152, PT: LSAT 25%-146)
Indiana University School of Law- Indianapolis (tier 2) (FT: LSAT 25%- 152, PT: LSAT 25% 151)
Best of luck and also you may want to purchase the ABA:LSAC Official Guide to ABA-Approved Law Schools this is where i get all my data from. I do not know if they have an online version but they might.
