Incoming 1Ls / Re: Pre Law school prep courses
« on: March 21, 2004, 05:49:55 PM »
I think it really depends on your study habits.  I didn't take any courses but did study from several of the prep books out there (Kaplain's and Princeton Review's) and did well enough (164).  You might want to take several practice tests and see how you do before spending the money on the courses, imo.

Incoming 1Ls / what to wear?
« on: March 21, 2004, 05:46:17 PM »
Not to be superficial, but what is appropriate to wear to a day-long entering law students "reception"?  Also, what is appropriate for the first day of class? As I typically wear jeans, and rarely "dress-up" I wasn't sure what would be best.  Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Law School Admissions / Re: survey: computer programmers with WE?

I'm curious about what area the computer people want to practice in too.  I've been working in system administration for almost the past 4 years while getting my MS and applied to law school last fall.  I was considering studying intellectual property/internet law type areas but now am thinking in the next 3-5 years the market might end up saturated with computer geeks venturing into the legal field.

P.S. After reading several of the comments, I'm really glad I didn't take the "I've really into computers so I'm unique" approach to my PS (several of my rough drafts were definitely heading that way to begin with though)  :P

Incoming 1Ls / Re: 2004 Stats for Acceptances and Rejections
« on: March 19, 2004, 05:28:50 PM »
My undergraduate cumulative was 3.4, graduate was about 3.9 (MS) and LSAT 164.

Applied to two schools:

University of Colorado: Applied by Dec. 1.  Acceptance letter received late January.  No word of financial aid/scholarships yet.

University of Denver:  Applied by Dec. 1.  Acceptance email around Feb 15.  Scholarship information received about March 1st.  No word on financial aid though.

It might be helpful for everyone to post information on when they received scholarship/financial aid info because it sounds like some people are waiting on that to make a final decision.  I've read on other boards that some people have already gotten information from CU and although right now that is my first pick, as I've gotten some money from DU, until I get some word on the costs of CU I can't be certain that it will remain my first pick.

Good luck to everyone still waiting and/or trying to make a decision  :)

Choosing the Right Law School / Re: U. of Colo. verses U. of Denver

That article pretty much seemed to sum up what I thought of the two schools after visiting them.  I finally visited CU Wednesday.  Although the program seems better, it definately wasn't nearly as nice as DU.  Considering there is about a 50 years difference between the schools ages, it is no surprise though.  However, I wonder if the aesthetics of the place really matter that much?

Yeah, I'm already a Denver native with a lease on an apartment in Denver.  I'm swaying toward CU because it is better ranked.  Plus an hour bus ride there and back everyday would definitely give me plenty of time to study :-)

Thank you both for responding though!!!  Good luck :-)

Choosing the Right Law School / U. of Colo. verses U. of Denver

I was accepted to both CU and DU and was wondering if anyone had any information about either/both of them.  Any information would be greatly appreciated!

I received my letter about a month ago and was offered $20,000 a year this week.  GPA was about 3.4 undergrad/ 4.0 graduate and LSAT was 164.  I'm curious if anyone knows anything about CU compared to DU?  I was accepted to CU (no money so far though) and now that they are about the same tuition-wise I am wondering which was the better choice.  Thanks for any input :-)

I'm hoping someone will reply :-)  I am currently trying to decide between CU and University of Denver.  Have you visited CU yet?  Or Boulder?  I am a Denver native and have lived here all my life and would be happy to answer questions specifically about the city of Boulder/ Colorado in general but as far as the school am waiting to hear what others think about it too!
