Ikes. What's up with UCLA this year? They are being uber selective. You either need an LSAT well above their median or a freakishly high GPA to get admitted so far. I hope all of their accepeteds go to T14 schools and UCLA has to scramble to fill up their class by wh0r!ng themselves out to underqualified applicants. They just shouldn't be so gosh-darned selective!

I haven't heard a thing from UCLA. I was pretty confident they were going to accept me when I first applied but like Florida in 2000, I think I have to move it back into the too close to call category. Unfortunately, they're all too close to call at this point...except maybe Columbia which is like a Democrat running in Texas.*

glad: I wouldn't be too worried...especially since you had to go and get straight As and ruin our chances for twin cycles.

I was waitlisted also. Very sad.    I'm not going to stay on the list, I don't want to wait that long to make a decision and I am positive that even if I got in at the last moment there would be no money, only crappy places to live.........  my stats:  3.76, 167, science degree  Again, very sad.

That dream was already dead unless Michigan pulls an unlikely reversal and turns my deferral into an acceptance.

Does UCLA only call auto-admits? Does everyone else get letters?

For those of you who got the WL letter.  How much did you love that pink paper with the pencil graphic border?

I wonder who made that decision.

Purple here too. It reminds me of a flyer you'd get back in like 3rd grade. I was surprised.

Deferral isn't a rejection. And considering the UMich e-mail just said "We need more time" and it wasn't ED/EA, I don't think gladiator is in bad shape.

Why is Michigan so weird? They're turning down people who could probably get into Harvard.

Nope,

I dropped 12 bucks for a reply of some kind.  Once I get that, I'll withdraw. ;)

How did I get waitlisted?!  I didn't even apply, and, when I got home, the letter was waiting.

Look at me! Look at me!

I was about to delete it.  Sorry.

You should really stop deleting and editing your posts man.  Are you really that paranoid about ad-coms spying on you?

I got waitlisted at UCLA on Monday...it's the first school that has waitlisted me and I was wondering if someone could fill me in on UCLA's waitlist process.

Does anyone know if they tell us our placement number on the waitlist? Thanks in advance!

Some say that UCLA admits very few people off the waitlist; between 0 and 50 from about 200 students.

Oh, I'm not feeling too down. I'm so relieved I got into NYU early, it really is making the rest of my cycle much less stressful.

I wouldn't say admitting 50 or so students is "very few" though. It's around 40-60 if I recall, per Dean Schwartz.

my question is do they give offers to 40-60 people and maybe 20 choose to accept?  or do they have 40-60 people taking the offers and maybe they offer 80-100?

Miss Beesly, your GPA is quite good and your LSAT is at least above the 95th percentile.

Why did you ignore my response to this statement?

Which statement? This^one? You're right, my numbers are decent enough, but don't forget my amazing ECs, LORs and PS.  ;)

No, my response to Ender's statement that you quoted.

I stated earlier in the thread that I have no issue with AA admits numbers-wise who have more to offer.  Since urMom was adversely decided upon by two lower ranked schools than NYU, it's likely she has little else to offer.

And since I was admitted to Michigan and Virginia but held at Notre Dame, UM and UVA must have had some ulterior motive.

Are "holds" now equal to "rejections"?

I would never pick LA over Berkley, that's just dumb. UCLA is so freaking over-rated and overly selective.

*BTW, i'm ultra bitter because I got rejected for Undergrad*

Brings back horrible memories... as  USC says...FUCLA

Can anyone answer my question?

Why UCLA over Boalt, if you could pick?

Simple preference of Los Angeles over Berkeley. This is why I picked UCLA over Berkeley for undergrad.
I'd probably lean towards Berkeley for LS because I've already spent four years at UCLA and because it has better career options, but to act like it is "unfathomable" is to be a rankings whore and not realize people have other priorities.

Ditto. Exactly.

I'm not trying to pull off anything.  I wouldn't have asked the question just to be annoying.  Someone earlier in the thread mentioned UCLA over Boalt, and I wanted to know why.

Oooh!  I have one:  I would pick UCLA over Berkeley because my fiance got a job as a cardiothoracic radiologist at UCLA med center.  Value your unfettered early twenties, son.  Live it up, because they will turn into late twenties with responsibility very soon.

How are you balancing the time?  It sounds rather tough to deal with your respective schedules, much less both of them.

Well, I'm not there yet.  But it shouldn't be an issue.  Radiology is the life.  She'll be 8-5 with only about two calls per month.  Her residency, though, was a different story.

I also don't understand why legitimate discussions concerning Affirmative Action are automatically dismissed as flames or as being silly.

We have a forum for this.

Knock yourself out.

Like many have said, TFM, this is a thread about the UCLA waitlist. Start a new thread if you want to consistently talk about something else.

TheFlyingMachine - as many posters here have correctly noted, the purpose of this thread is to discuss the UCLA Waitlist.  If you wish to debate the merits of Affirmative Action, please relegate such discussion to the Affirmative Action Thread, which is dedicated to that purpose.

To that end, all previous posts in this thread germane to the topic of Affirmative Action may be found here:
