Reviews, Visits, and Rankings / Re: What happens if you miss the "cutoff?"

Lawyers who miss the "cutoff" generally burn their brushes and easels to stay warm at night.

Of course, there are exceptions.

I went ice fishing when I missed the cut off.

So is there any legitimate opportunity to advance for these people?

What do you mean?  Do you seriously think big law firms are the only places for JDs to go?

Law School Applications / Re: Exciting job offer vs. Law school

At risk of giving everything away, the job is working with advertising accounts. The job itself should be all right, the pay decent, but the best part is definitely the company. Visiting the site during my interview reminded me of college, only better. It's one of Microsoft, eBay, Google, Apple, Yahoo.

Google is about to release a new handheld browser I believe, the work environment includes naptime and in office massages, and stock options.  F law school.

Sadly they changes their stock option plan about a year ago.  But it's still a great place to work.

I disagree that Great Lakes and Goose Island make essentially the same Christmas Ale.  I am a veteran of both.  They have some distinct differences.  Great Lakes makes a better offering.

Now I am craving a Westy . . .

I'm going to guess it's Google...which I've heard is like working at Candyland. Sounds pretty awesome.

Sounds like Google.  They have a few positions like that up in their Ann Arbor offices, too.  I know someone who works there.  They have a Wiiiiiiiiiiiii in the office.  Nuff said.

Where should I go next fall? / Re: 154, 154, 3.67 U Madison--odds, ideas?

Great Lakes.  This is the name of a brewing company in Cleveland that makes a damn excellent Christmas Ale.

Great Lakes is phenomenal.  They are right up there with Victory, Three Floyds, Stone, Alesmith and Jolly Pumpkin as best craft breweries in the States.

I'm a sucker for goose island reserve, i.e. Matilda.

The couple of reserves Goose Island does are nice (Bourbon Stout, I am looking at you).  Overall, I think GI is solid.  Every once in a while, they brew something spectacular, but more often than not that are a step or two below the big boys.

I also forgot to add Dogfish Head in my previous post.  Great stuff.

General board for soon-to-be 1Ls / Re: Students with dogs
« on: November 26, 2007, 02:16:25 PM »
I had a friend bring her dog into class last year.  I wasn't in that class, but I got a kick out of it anyways.
We have an animal rights class, you can bring your pets to it, I have seen dogs, cats, birds, snakes everything in that room, its like a zoo.

I'd be scared to death in that class.

It has already been said, but SIU will do nothing for you in Chicago. Like all good Chicagoans, I have nothing to do with the rest of the state, so practicing outside the city is beyond me.

Exactly.  I still say we draw a horizontal line at Kankakee and cede everything south to Indiana.  Then maybe we can get some damn transit funding in Chicago.

FYI, many schools game the system and make it impossible for everyone to keep a scholarship they have.

I haven't been offered any scholarship money yet, but if it does happen later on in the cycle, I will refer back to this thread, which I have found very informative. For the conditional scholarships, if you ask what percentage of students actually keep them, can you trust the school's response? Or is it like job placement statistics, which you really have to investigate to get the real answer...?

My general rule is to never trust a law school's administration.
