Law School Applications / Re: Chance at Harvard?
« on: June 28, 2005, 11:10:29 AM »
Okay, I have a question....we all know that LSAT is king when it comes to admissions.  Checking chiashu however, with a  3.4/179 georgeer's chances are approx 30%.

When I inputted my own stats (3.92/173) chiashu spit out 73% for harvard?  Does my GPA really outweight the 6 point differential on the LSAT or is it simply because once your LSAT scores are that high then there is not as much of a difference say between 173 and 179 than between 160 and 166?

Thanks for any input, I'm really curious.

Law School Applications / Re: Advantages of joint J.D./MBA programs?

You get a JD and an MBA in 4 years (if you did them separately it would take 5)
You take 5 semesters in the law school and 3 in the business school

So are you saying it would many times be more beneficial to go to a school that does give A+ (as long as its reasonably well ranked/known) to begin with in the hopes of getting a 4.2 or 4.3 gpa which is significantly higher than the median or 75% at every law school including HYS?  Or does some sort of method exist for objectively comparing the two?

As a followup to the whole A+ thing - how do law schools reconcile A+ schools with those schools (I feel like its the majority) that do not give A+, for instance your max GPA is 4.33 on LSAC scale correct?  Do they use a ratio like 4.06/4.33 vs 3.78/4 for example to compare?

How do you have a 4.06? (just curious)
Are you from U of Iowa? I know they do A+.

Law School Applications / what are my chances at T14, brutally honest
« on: June 27, 2005, 12:16:42 AM »
First of all I would like to say that I am not trying to be arrogant or anything when I say that I have good numbers, so please don't flame!

Anyways my numbers are:
LSAT: 173
GPA: 3.92 (Top 40 Private in Electrical Engineering)

LORS: Pretty good/solid
Work Experience: Solid (very presitigious internships)
Extracurriculars: Sorely lacking any leadership positions (just a smattering of random clubs)

I am kind of worried that my extracurriculars more or less suck, and I am applying straight out of undergrad so I really dont have much "life experience"

I feel that I have a great chance at schools 6-14, is that right?
What about at the top five especially the "holy trinity", what do you guys (and girls) think my chances are at those? (especially Harvard, wanted to go there my whole life).

I'm not a minority (White male)

Thanks in advance for the advice!
