Current Law Students / UGA vs Georgetown
« on: March 22, 2006, 07:36:39 PM »
So I've always wanted to go to Georgetown and I got in, but I also got some money from UGA. The tuition at UGA wuold be 4K per year, Georgetown 36K.

I'm going to Georgetown because I've always wanted to go there, but it seems like employers would factor this in during recruiting. What do you'll think?

By "factor this in," it seems like employers would realize the difference in cost, but it seems like they don't by and large. Why is that?

Thanks, that makes sense.

What are some good options for a 1L Georetown student who wants to stay in DC or go to ATL? Does anyone know if/what they pay and what the work entails?

Job Search / Options for Georgetown 1L's

Hi Everyone,

Does anyone have a good idea of what the options are like for a Georgetown 1L for the first summer? I'd be very interested in going abroad, but I wouldn't want to take on more loans for that.

If you do decently well, what kind of options do you have? What would the work be like? Does anyone have any specific experience with this (especially in DC or ATL)?

Thanks, this is definitely helpful. I don't have any criminal record or anything at least. What about non governmental work after 1L? Has anyone here had any experience going abroad for the summer after 1L with a firm or other program?

I'd love to go abroad for a summer, but I know it is expensive and I wouldn't want to do it if I was paying the whole price myself. Are any abroad programs paid for 1L's?

H everyone,

I'm going to Georgetown Law this fall and I was curious about what my options might be after my first year. I'm interested in someday working for the State Dept or CIA. The Georgetown website mentions abroad programs as a possibility for 1L's. Does anyone have any experience with this?

That's pretty helpful. Thank you.

Do any of you guys know how someone goes about working in a law firm's office abroad (say London for instance) after or during law school? It sounds like it'd be cool to do that, but I wonder if it's very hard to do.

Have any of you read that thread on about Fordham, or the general doc review threads? They sound awful. I don't know how representative they are, but you should look at them. It sounds awful.

Reaching- How do you know this? I'm not questioning its validity, but I'd be interested in knowing where you got this information from.

Law School Admissions / Re: SOFT FACTORS VS NUMBERS
« on: May 30, 2006, 04:49:16 PM »
I don't think soft-factors count for anything. I had basically no EC's and my acceptances pretty much followed exactly what LSAC's website predicted. LSAT then GPA then your UG institution are what they look at. A former Dean of Admissions at a T14 explicitly told this to my Dad. He said he never really cared about work experience, but this may be a factor at some schools (I think Northwestern).

Don't listen to anyone trying to convince you that EC's are going to tip the scale for you (unless you're applying to Yale which would be a crapshoot with any numbers for a non-URM)>
