« on: April 14, 2005, 01:54:41 PM »Shadyside gets a lot of attention. It has brick buildings, a williams sonoma, and a lot of people with 6 inch dogs. Obviously i dont like shadyside, thats why im telling you its not all you think it is.
YOu want to rent with the idea of market inneficiencies in mind: popular will mean more crime, higher value, and more annoying people.
However, the biggest argument for living in shadyside is that all the bars that law students go to (the grove, william penn, village pizza, etc) are in shadyside, so if you want to walk home this is where to live. This arguemnt alone justifies living in shadyside.
ok, here we go. Some of these areas dont have a lot of homes for rent, or dont have public transportation right into oakland. But they are all safer, many are as nice, and they are all cheaper. IF you are a law student concerned about identifying and taking advantage of market inneficiencies, look here first.
Friendship (though shadyside area code, so technically shadyside)
Regent Square
Squirell Hill (though also overrated, but not dangerous)
Beechview
Greenfield
Polish Hill (great safe as hell quiet old person neighborhood)
Highland Park (some)
Spring Hill
Troy Hill (entire north side)
Mt Washington
Duquesne
Allentown
Carrick
Arlington
Hazelwood
Glen Hazel
Brookline
South Oakland
Im not trying to be a male private part by listing so many neighborhoods, but i think they are all better.
p.s. shadyguy, one more time. you will probably not get robbed and you will probably like shadyside, just like i said in the first place. Im am just telling you man, i have lived here for my whole life and there are a lot of break ins. as to the unreliability of my info- like i said, that was what i came up with a five minute google.
