Incoming 1Ls / What will be your relationship status as a 1L?

Just curious...  I will be of the "live in relationship" variety.

Wow they are still wait listing people...  They told me they have a few hundred on the wait list and will most likley have few to no openings.

Incoming 1Ls / Re: Girls, Let's Talk Laptop Bags
« on: May 21, 2005, 12:18:30 PM »
This is a question that has plagued me over the last year, and this thread has been so helpful.  I have not bought a laptop yet so it is difficult to pick the bag I want.  Or maybe I should find the bag and then the laptop to go with it?

Here is the Tumi 3 Way (much less exciting than it sounds).  You can carry it as a backpack, or with a shoulder strap, or with the handle.

It seems practical, although my vanity will probably lead me to a Coach or Kate Spade.  All my friends in law school say you need something with wheels, but that is a road I don't want to cross just yet.

I am going to Law Preview in LA in June.  Anyone else?  I got a big discount through work and figured I may as well take it.  Better to be safe than sorry I guess, although it does seem pretty cheesy.

Ok well I had the interview, and it went very well.  I am feeling more confident I will get a spot as long as the openings are there.

RE LOR: I sent in 4 letters mainly because I had 4 good people who I knew could contribute something unique to my app.  One was a professor (since an additional educational app is always good and I still see her at volunteer functions), another is someone else on the board of a different community service group I am involved with.  I got a job as a paralegal that was brand new when I sent my app. so I did not put it on my resume, I had that boss send a letter.  I am now interning and got a letter from my new boss who has known me a long time previous to my internship and has a very high position.

I think the letters were appropriate for me b/c I am out of school, and therefore have had some developments to speak of.

A Dean of Admissions told me to e-mail or send a letter once every 3 weeks at the most.  If it is more often than that it becomes annoying.

I am currently interning with a county that I hope to work for when I graduate.  They have told me they will help me get a job regardless of where I go to school.  I have see ppl. get promoted highly from 3rd tier law schools.  Most attys there went to 1st or 2nd tier and have to work a few years elsewhere to have a change of a job.  I think it depends a lot on the agency.

Choosing the Right Law School / Re: Duke (20k) vs USC (45k)
« on: May 18, 2005, 07:00:30 PM »
Well I say go to Duke, b/c I am waitlisted at USC! j/k.  I only applied to cal schools so I have no idea about Duke...

I am wait listed at a highly ranked school that is my first choice.  I have sent 2 letters, and 4 additional LOR.  Now I have scored the unoffical interview with the dean of admissions.

Here is the obvious:  Dress nice (I bought new shoes!), state specific reasons I want to go there (do my research on faculty, curriculum, ect), play up my strengths, and hopefully get some questions answered.

I am fairly nervous.  I interview well, but this is obviously much more important than a regular interview.

Any strategy advise?

I got in quickly with a 166 and 3.6.  I am 99% sure I won't go, but went ahead and put down a deposit.  Maybe you can have my spot...
