Come to hastings with me  :)

I worked as a paralegal over the last year.  I am not certified, but my employer financed paralegal classes for me.  I think it will help give me some perspective, and I know the basic vocab.  I think it depends a lot on the type of office.  In some offices paralegals are glorified secretaries.  I worked in an office where we did everything from discovery, research, judgments, settlement offers, talking to clients & O/C, pleadings, ect.

By no means do I think this will make a huge diff. in my law school performance.  If anything I have been told paralegals are often disliked for their "better than" attitude at law school.  I plan to leave my ego at the door, and not tell ppl. about it.  Granted I only did it for 1 year.

In May I got two rejection letters from UCLA on the same day.  One was the law school rejection, and the other was for the public interest program.  One letter would have obviously sufficed.

A few thinkpads are currently on sale, including the T43 I want (266872U).  I did not know about the battery thing, but had already planned to purchase an additional battery.  I don't know if this is the "quarter sale" or a regular old sale.  I will call and ask as I plan to make the big purchase this Friday.

Quitting last week of June, then taking a trip out west for a few weeks.

Me too, but I will be in South America 3 weeks in July!  I plan on getting in lots of surfing, going to the beach, seeing family and friends, reading tacky books with absolutely no academic stimulation, ect.

As promised here is my Law Preview review:

I found the class to be interesting, and help ease some of the fears surrounding 1L.  I was amazed at how intensive it actually was.  I was in class from 8-5:30, had an hour drive each way, and was up studying until 1 a.m. every night, while still never completing all the homework.  Then getting up at 5:30 for another round.  6 days of this was brutal, and I came back to work today exhausted with everyone asking if I had a nice vacation.

For those of you taking the class, they send you a book a few weeks before class starts.  I would spend the day before the class doing all the briefs (it will probably take you all day to do a good job).  Unlike me, who started at like 8 p.m. on Sunday night before realizing how much I had set myself back.

Overall I am glad I did it.  I got a substantial discount (paid less than half) so the money was not a big factor.  You could probably read all this stuff in books and achieve the same result.  I enjoyed viewing real professors teaching the material in a simulated law school environment, and a taste of the amount of work this will entail.  Now I am going to enjoy my summer, and probably review the material a couple weeks before class starts.  The real litmus test will be seeing my first semester grades!

The Thinkpad sounds very solid but I haven't been able to find one in a store to try out. Does anyone know what retailer might carry them? I understand the screen isn't quite as nice as the VIAO but it is larger (14" vs. 13"). I'd really like to try one out before I make a decision.

I had the same problem, and contacted Lenova about this.  Apparently no retain chains carry IBMs anymore, and you must purchase directly from the chain.  It is scary to drop $2,000+ never seeing the product.  After much indepedent research, and reading many of the discussions I am going with the IBM T43, and letting the reviews speak for themselves (even though I have never actually seen one).  I am looking to finalize the purchase this week.
