LSAC and LSDAS / Re: What is LSDAS ???
« on: July 03, 2005, 08:43:43 PM »

So when i sign up for this service i can apply to any law school through their website?
Not any, but most. The school chooses whether or not they do the apps through them. Out of the 6 I applied to, 5 used it though, and from my research many of the other schools do choose to as well.

Definitely.  I am in Southern NJ myself.  Maybe I'll see you fighting traffic on the Ben Franklin bridge.

No way! :P I'm in Bordentown, and since they built the river line light rail, I'm taking the train... I hate to drive, no less in the city! It'll take a little longer, but at least I can get some reading done on the train. -_-

Saw you will be attending Temple - maybe I'll see you around.  Just out of curiousity, why did you decided on Temple over Pitt?

Partially location, partially program. Temple allowed me to stay in NJ, but that wasn't the deciding factor. I really want to attend temple because I'm looking to head into international corporate transactional law, particularly working with a Japanese company if I can, so I was drawn to the semester in Tokyo as well as them having an UG program there (especially with the recent accreditation!). That way I can indulge my interests in my career :P Anyway, they have a good percent heading into business work and they're still in the NY/NJ/PA area that I'd prefer to stay in.
Hope I see you around as well! :)

LSAC and LSDAS / Re: Sending Transcrips--silly question
« on: July 02, 2005, 08:54:00 AM »
Don't sweat it. Just request one and have it sent without it. When I was signing up for LSAC, I forgot to include the uni where I took classes while I was in HS. I called them to ask about the TS question, they said to just have it sent without it, it will find its way to your account.

LSAC and LSDAS / Re: LSDAS GPA/degree granting...yeah, another post.

I had two W's, they didn't count against me or even get mentioned on my report, so don't sweat it. I would think only incomplete's would make their way to the page.

LSAC and LSDAS / Re: Do Law Schools See Just your LSDAS GPA?
« on: July 02, 2005, 08:47:59 AM »
Or do they see your transcript as it appears in its entirety?  I'm pissed b/c my four B+'s will only count 3.33 to those bastards rather than my school's 3.5.

But how can you be pissed? The point is that the LSDAS needs to standardize everyone's GPA across the board, not send out each individual schools weird ass grading scale (my UG was strange in that we had no "-" and no "A+", but at least we were still on a 4.0 scale). That's only fair.

Not only is it necessary, but when you see everything it does you'll be happy it's there. They organize the tedious parts of the application process and in the end make things much easier for you. It means that you won't, for the most part at least, need to worry about sending separate transcripts to each school (there are some schools that don't use the LSDAS for their applications/transcripts, but they are few and far between). It also means you can easily apply and track your applications online (not to mention there are several schools with auto fee waivers for an online app). It's the kind of thing that would be worth paying for even if you didn't need it. But since 90% of schools require going through LSDAS, yes, you'll need to shell out the $106.

General board for soon-to-be 1Ls / Re: Planning a wedding before LS

I just got married on June 12th. It really wasn't bad to handle along with moving and whatnot. Just make sure the larger details are taken care of in advance!

I really like the one that looks like it's going to be a reality show about the newlyweds living in a tiny house... that had me going! I was actually disappointed that it was a fake.

I was disappointed because I hate reality TV, but I so would have watched that.  ;D

I don't think there's any group that looks only at the GPA in your major. Otherwise everyone's would be soaring high (or at least higher than otherwise... crap, I'd have something like a 3.9, I wish!).
