Law School Admissions / Re: Sending Transcrips--silly question
« on: July 02, 2005, 06:54:00 AM »
Don't sweat it. Just request one and have it sent without it. When I was signing up for LSAC, I forgot to include the uni where I took classes while I was in HS. I called them to ask about the TS question, they said to just have it sent without it, it will find its way to your account.

I had two W's, they didn't count against me or even get mentioned on my report, so don't sweat it. I would think only incomplete's would make their way to the page.

Law School Admissions / Re: Do Law Schools See Just your LSDAS GPA?
« on: July 02, 2005, 06:47:59 AM »
Or do they see your transcript as it appears in its entirety?  I'm pissed b/c my four B+'s will only count 3.33 to those bastards rather than my school's 3.5.

But how can you be pissed? The point is that the LSDAS needs to standardize everyone's GPA across the board, not send out each individual schools weird ass grading scale (my UG was strange in that we had no "-" and no "A+", but at least we were still on a 4.0 scale). That's only fair.

Not only is it necessary, but when you see everything it does you'll be happy it's there. They organize the tedious parts of the application process and in the end make things much easier for you. It means that you won't, for the most part at least, need to worry about sending separate transcripts to each school (there are some schools that don't use the LSDAS for their applications/transcripts, but they are few and far between). It also means you can easily apply and track your applications online (not to mention there are several schools with auto fee waivers for an online app). It's the kind of thing that would be worth paying for even if you didn't need it. But since 90% of schools require going through LSDAS, yes, you'll need to shell out the $106.

Incoming 1Ls / Re: Planning a wedding before LS

I just got married on June 12th. It really wasn't bad to handle along with moving and whatnot. Just make sure the larger details are taken care of in advance!

I really like the one that looks like it's going to be a reality show about the newlyweds living in a tiny house... that had me going! I was actually disappointed that it was a fake.

I was disappointed because I hate reality TV, but I so would have watched that.  ;D

Law School Admissions / Re: New! I have a question about law school?

I don't think there's any group that looks only at the GPA in your major. Otherwise everyone's would be soaring high (or at least higher than otherwise... crap, I'd have something like a 3.9, I wish!).

Choosing the Right Law School / Re: Hofstra or NYLS for NYC law?
« on: June 23, 2005, 02:28:42 PM »

Rankings differential is negligible (if you were talking Brooklyn Law or Fordham, it would be another matter). Where to go then will depend on other factors. Do you want to live in NYC? Long Island? Let the environment guide you.

I second that. After spending a substantial amount of time looking in the area, the number one factor for schools within a marginal spread should be where you feel comfortable. If you like the city, you're obviously better off there. Hofstra isn't horrible, but housing can be somewhat tricky and it's not all the easy to get to the city (for the love of god don't try to drive, but then again, that's anytime you're headed to NYC).

Temple is never on the lists, but it should be considered. Especially if you're looking at working in asia. Their recent undergrad accreditation in the somewhat strict Japanese market means new overseas name recognition, not to mention their other overseas bases in Beijing, Italy, and a few others I can't remember right now (obviously you can see where my interest lies :P). They may not be T14, but their worth a look.

Watch out for that damn LIE! Come 8 am it's more of a parking lot than a road :P But hey, you're from NY, you already knew that!  ;D
