Choosing the Right Law School / Re: Albany or Syracuse

Thanks for your input.  What was Syracuse like?  Why did it make such a favorable impression? Your opinions would be extremely helpful as I think this through.  I think I got my mind set on Albany because it was my first and only acceptance for a long time.  Now I feel loyal to this school. Silly I know.....I will try not to be such an irrational girl. I am soooo confused but I will visit next weekend and make my mind up then.

Tis another day -

Did you go to visit Albany?  Where are you from?  I went for an Open house a month ago and I was so impressed with the school and the faculty members that I met.  What other schools are you waiting to hear from?  I am still waiting for Hofstra and New England School of Law.  I think Albany is the school for me.  I won't go there with a transfer plan though.  I am sure I will be happy there for 3 years.  It is just nice to remember that if things don't work out there are other options too.

I am going to Syracuse next weekend so I will let you know what I think.

Congrats to you too!  Maybe we will meet in Albany one day.

That's what I am talking about!  Everyone is totally on the same page here.

About people advising you to apply to schools you know are out of your leaugue:
I notice that people just think I am being modest and looking for praise when I tell them my GPA is not good enough to apply for schools that I know are out of my reach. They try to encourage me but I am not looking for encouragement..........just being a realist.

Hey CC Lemon -

I am pretty sure I am going to Albany and I have yet to find out anything bad about it either.  I too will be coming to ALS by myself and I know I am a pretty social person so I am sure there will lots of people like us who want to maintain a social life in law school.  It seemed like there were lots of fun bars and restaurants when I visited Albany 3 weeks ago.  I have actually put a deposit on an apartment there already.  I was 100% sure that Albany was my school until 2 days ago when I got accepted to Syracuse.  I definitely have to go check the Syracuse campus out but I am still partial to Albany.

Maybe I will meet you in August!  Good Luck

My family decided to give me a 15 minute limit per day of talking about law school! Now I just come on to this website instead which is better because like you said everyone knows the deal.  You don't have to give long explanations before you tell them what is on your mind.

I am soooooo proud! I had no expectations when I started the process - just thought I would take it one step at time and see if I had what it took to do well on the LSAT.  I can't believe that I have come this far and I am really going to law school!!!!
I plan to get a sweatshirt as soon as I decide where I am going...

Congrats to everyone embarking on the journey of endless studying and endless debt!  It will all be worth it!

I have to say that Law School Discussion has been very helpful in furthering my law school obsession.  It began over a year ago when I decided to take the June LSAT to see if law school was even a possibility for me then it spiraled out of control from there.  While they wish me the best; friends and family have told me that they are tired of hearing about logical reasoning, personal statements, USNWR rankings, tiers 1,2 and 3, financial aid and deciding where to attend.  Their eyes glaze over when I bring the subject up. It is great to be able to obsess with other aspiring law students and to know that others are consumed with the same issues!

Thanks mlenin!  It is true that the rankings are close.  It is the difference in median starting salary that concerns me.  It is inspiring to know that people transfer to better schools from Albany too.  I am not sure if that is what I will do but it is nice to have the option open.  I am planning to work my butt off and place high in the class.  I appreciate your input!

I am not sure which school would be better for you.  I am waitlisted at Penn State and accepted to Syracuse but I know it is crucial to visit if you can.  You already have an idea of Penn State now you have to investigate Syracuse and give it a fair chance.  I think your career opportunities will be similar for each school.  I guess what I am saying is that you have two good choices so you have to pick the place that will best accommodate yourself and your fiance for the next three years.  I am sure whatever decision you make will lead your toward a great legal career.  Congrats on your acceptances and best of luck!
