I'm not a law student yet, and I have no basis to say this other than my own experience, but I'd take the paying job at the firm. There you will get experience and get paid without having to get an extra job. With the other job, although it would be a great experience as well, you would still need to get another job. This will probably be the last summer for awhile when you can just have fun, why work two jobs when you can work one and have the off time to relax?

I will be attending in the Fall, so I dont know exactly what a first year's schedule looks like, but I remember seeing one somewhere (either online or in the handbook somewhere) and it didn't look too bad. Obviously depends on you section, and I do know that Hofstra has certain times where there are never classes being held during the day. (I apologize again because I don't remember what exactly they are called) but for example, Wednesdays from 11-12 could be this "free time" where there are NEVER classes at that time.
As with every other ABA school they don't recommend a job first year, but I've heard that students do it. I'm personally thinking about working in the library or something where I can hopefully study and get paid.
I am at work now, but when I get home (and if I remember) I will try to locate where I saw that sample schedule and let you know what it looks like or where you can find it.

I have a friend in law school and he said that all exams are either open book or take home (no closed book exams). Is that the general consensus from current students? He also said that if you don't know the material, you could have every book every written on the subject and you still wouldn't pass.

I am in the EXACT position you are in, only in NY instead of MD. I have considered having a room mate for the same reason you have, that it would be a lot cheaper, but for me, the other factors seem to outweigh the cost benefit for me.
I know myself, and having not lived with a room mate for awhile, I think it would be hard to go back to that, especially someone I don't know. I will have enough stress with starting law school, trying to get good grades to keep my scholarship and trying to maintain my relationship with my boyfriend, adding another wildcard into the equation may be more of a stress in the long run than I may want or need, depending on the room mate of course, and considering we are 4 months from starting school, I'm not sure how well you would get to know anyone you would find to live with at this point. And they might be OK with your boyfriend coming over a lot at first, but come finals time things may change (that is from first hand experience).
On the other side though, there are TONS of people who find roommates and are able to make it work, just depends on the type of person you are.
Hope that helped...

Yes because telling him to commit ritual suicide was an intelligent comment. If you don't have anything to add of substance than don't say anything.
And I agree with you Noelle. You could easily get taken advantage of if you are "too nice". Give something and get something back.

Thank you for the constructive comments birddog.
Finko obviously has nothing to do but try to bring others down. He/she posted something nasty like that to someone else's comments on another topic. Ignore him/her and keep giving the great comments.

Hey future classmates
Got my verification that my tuition deposit was received, so now it is official....(Also received a Hofstra law decal for my car)
I'm working on getting my financial aid stuff in order now.
They also included a list of things they will need before school starts. One of them is a passport photo which I thought was interesting...face book maybe?
The apartment search is on hold until taping for the sitcom pilot is complete... lol

LMAO at the Hofstra Law Dress....what made you decide law versus acting? Just curious. I ask lots of questions so if you guys ever want to NOT answer one I understand :-) I can only imagine what it is like being finals time in school now, knowing that you are already in law school. Must be hard to stay focused. I'm having focus problems with work which is why I'm on here so much lol. Sucks about your laptop. I'm looking into purchasing a Dell laptop for school. (I have a desktop but I've heard that laptops are essential in law school.)
Linquest: thanks for the info about your friend. Very encouraging.
(Here I was thinking I was special b/c I got a shirt....lol)

Congratulations Hofstralaw! Yeah the seat deposit was MUCH more than any of the other schools I was accepted to, and they only give you $250 back if you withdraw by June 1st I think. And the school is quite expensive as well. I got a partial scholarship, but I will still be going into substantial debt when I'm done.
Where are you located now? And how many years out of college is several? I'm three years out of school and dying to go back.
I'm contemplating taking one of those prep courses...still thinking about it...
FOOSE: do you think maybe the next door neighbor prof would consider paying for the apartment for us? I think that would boost ratings through the roof!
My TShirt was big too...I wear it to sleep.

Yeah...it's like drinking alone...first sign of addiction posting at this time of night...lol
Traveling sounds great. I just got back from a cruise to Grand Cayman and Cozumel Mexico and had the most amazing time. I did not want to come back to the cold NY weather. I'm still in post vacation mode which does not make sitting for 8 hours at work any easier. That is where the addiction to this board began due to my utter boredom at work and desire to think of anything else but the files in front of me.
I'm still deciding on my role in the show...I'll get back to you on that one...
Was anyone else sent a T shirt from Hofstra?
