Minority and Non-Traditional Law Students / Re: pagan law school
« on: July 16, 2005, 04:10:04 PM »
I notice that quite a few Law Schools are attached to traditionally christian universities such as Pepperdine, Vanderbilt, Harvard, etc. I am wondering if being non-christian will hurt my chances of getting in? Should I mention by beleifs in my personal statement? Will my uniqueness exclude me or make me a desireable commodity? I know that schools cannot discriminate on basis of religious beleif but I don't want to make law school harder than it will already be.

thanx

Schools can't discriminate because of religion because it really isn't relevant to a law school application.  Most professionals would agree to leave out details about your religious beliefs, especially if mentioning them is an effort to highlight your "uniqueness".  The exception to this would be if your religious beliefs led you to apply to a similarly relgious law school.

Law School Admissions / Re: Ave Maria Law School?

Thanks.

Is anybody here attending or applying there?

Hi.  I will be attending this fall as a 1L.  There are some other lurking around here- they should show up soon.   :)

The school was recommended for full accreditation by the ABA's committee in June.  It's just a formality now- they will be fully accredited this August during the ABA's annual meeting.  So no worries.  By the time classes start we'll be all official.

If incorporating morals and ethics into your study of the law is important to you, specifically from a Catholic perspective, then Ave Maria is DEFINATELY the place for you.  You'll get a top education from a well-respected faculty (you can read about their credentials on AMSOL's website), Catholic tradition will be integrated into your studies, and you'll be immersed in a rich, Catholic enviornment.

I was on the fence between this school and a Tier 1 I was also accepted to.  My visit to Ave sealed the deal.  I think it's a wonderful opportunity.  Hope to see you there!

This thread is "cute," but also extremely stupid and potentially dangerous.  Will the blue state nation embrace the democratic form of government of the current United States?  If so, how about you get your party to try to WIN an ELECTION every once in a while instead of inciting civil war, which would destroy both the red and blue states and hurt the world.

Win an election... you mean like get more votes than the Republican candidate?  Yeah, we did that in 2000.  Didn't help.

Oh, I know.  I was just looking for some factual info about the Ave Maria town plan.

I'm going to the law school this fall too.   :)

FYI...

On Friday, June 17, 2005, the American Bar Association (ABA) Council on Legal Education voted to grant full accreditation to Ave Maria School of Law.  In early August, the Council's decision will be submitted to the House of Delegates for ratification.  This submission occurs during the ABA's Annual Convention.

Congratulations Ave Maria!

amaraya, were you waitlisted prior to this acceptance?  If you don't mind sharing your numbers...
There are a lot of us here waiting for American.

No, I wasn't waitlisted.  This was the first I heard from them- I applied very late.

My numbers are 2.66/163.  I think my personal statement may have helped.   :)

I'm going.  I haven't even received my acceptance package yet but I got an email yesterday telling me I've been accepted and allowing me to register.  I'm WL at Catholic so this was my first out and out acceptance!  :)  Now I just gotta cross my fingers on finding my way there- this will be my first visit.
