Wait List / Re: Accepted off UofA waitlist... now what do I do??
« on: June 18, 2005, 04:20:28 AM »
Congrats on your admissions.  Both are great schools, especially if you aren't planning on leaving Arizona.  As a former Wildcat, I would choose UofA.  I have lived in AZ my entire life (born and raised in Havasu), and I think that Tucson is a more cultural, more interesting, and altogether hipper city than Phoenix.  It is the San Diego to Phoenix's LA.  I do believe, however, that both cities are going nowhere but up, so you can't go wrong with either city or either school.

Where should I go next fall? / Re: GW or UCLA
« on: June 17, 2005, 09:07:23 PM »
Well, I got the phone call today, and I was officially offered admission at UCLA.  I have until Tuesday to decide.  I will probably choose UCLA; it is a school that I have always highly respected, and I honestly know little about GW other than what I have read on the boards and in books.

Question: My $800 GW deposit was due on June 15.  Would it be ok to cancel this check before it is cashed if I do decide on UCLA?

According to an admissions rep that I spoke with earlier this month they are over-enrolled. However, she did say that she expected people to start moving off the waitlist at the end of June. G'luck Kwertee - and if I were in your shoes I'd def. go to UCLA - although I've lived in L.A. all my life so I might be a bit biased. ;)

Thanks.  Good luck to you as well.  I will probably take the UCLA offer if I get it.

Does anybody have an arguement for GW?
How much am I sacrificing by choosing UCLA over GW if I choose to move to NYC someday?
If I choose to try and transfer up, where are my chances better at?

Applied very late.

Can you please elaborate on the phonecall? I'm a waitlisted UCLA applicant as well. Curious how you found that out?

They called me to tell me that spots will likely be opening up at the end of this week, and if they do, they will likely be offering me admission.  She was making sure that I was still interested in attending and hadn't already moved or anything.  I was told that I will probably have a 2-3 day turnaround on accepting their offer.

I thought UCLA was over enrolled?

I don't really know about this.  I can just tell you about the call I got.

I had already been accepted to GW, but today I got a phone call saying that there was a good chance that I would be accepted to UCLA off of the wait list later this week.  Putting aside all issues of money (tuition, living expenses, scholarships, etc.), which school should I choose?

I have no idea where I want to live after law school as long as it is in or very near a large city.  I also am not quite sure what type of law I want to practice, but I am fairly certain that I don't want to work in a big law firm.  I have actually been leaning toward becoming a PD.

Help please!  If you need any other information, just ask.

Wait List / Re: Georgetown Preferred Waitlist
« on: April 24, 2005, 09:09:30 AM »
I haven't sent anything in. I am surprised that Kwertee was waitlisted with that LSAT score and very decent GPA.

My theory about the 177 LSAT is that due to the nature of quartiles, once you are at or above the 75th percentile mark that a school wishes to attain, it doesn't really matter how far above that mark you are.

In the case of Georgetown, their 75th percentile LSAT score is 170, so I am essentially the same as a GPA-3.33/LSAT-170 student in their numbers game.

Couple that with the fact that I did nothing of worth in college other than take 6 years to get my 3 majors, and you are left with a candidate that is not quite as attractive as he seems.

Denials / Re: American - Double Rejection
« on: April 23, 2005, 06:10:26 AM »
Hey, just be careful about what else is in those packets... sometime you get several letters that start out congradulating you... then there are other forms requesting final transcripts, FA stuff, etc...

I have been accepted to Cardozo twice, and to Chicago-Kent around seven times.  Same letter and info packet and everything.  Every week I see a packet in my mail, get excited, and see that it is another Chicago-Kent acceptance.

I know.  I open everything.  It just seems that Chicago-Kent has me on some kind of duplicate list or something.  I get something; then I get the same thing the next day.  Without fail!

Word.

They have been my only rejection so far.  Even NYU put me on their wait list!
