Law School Applications / Re: Anyone else pissed off about minimum wage?

The right to work states make it difficult for servers.  There is no guarantee that the people you wait on will tip 15 to 20% yet they are calculating the "fair" wage based upon that assumption.  Most of the time we recieve NO paycheck after a 80 hour pay period. In California (also Oregon and Washington) servers make the normal minimum wage, not this $2.13 crap.  There are so many people out there who get tipped (hairdressers, nail techs, dog groomers, bellhops ect) and yet servers are shafted.  Most servers are students and single mothers.  Its out of control.  Good thing I move back to Cali in less than a month huh  ;D

Could have been worse, you could have been a hostess. Or a bus...person.

:P This is serious stuff!! I need shopping money :)

Honestly, I have total respect for servers.  They work MUCH harder than I do at my office job.

Just be sure to TIP your friendly server accordingly  ;D

PS- Man if Hastings could just let me know if I am in or not I wouldn't be playing around on LSD  ::)

Most servers I know make significantly more than other people with jobs requiring a comparable level of education...  working at the wrong restaurant?   ;)

You are totally right... if you work in the right state :) The money to be made in non right to work states is great, hence the reason I did it throughout UG.  Other states like AZ, ID and Texas (and the rest of the midwest :) ) do not have to pay a fair labor wage and hence they put too many servers on the floor meaning you dont get as many tables i.e. tips.

PS I had to work as a server to support myself through school.  Other more "credible" jobs just dont pay the same as serving in California.  It is flexible and the hours work.  I made more than most entry level jobs.  Granted that was California.

40? Did this come off another post? Pardon my confusion but what are you taking about? I work as a server and ya our minimum wage is 2.13 and hour.  So I feel your pain.... I think ;)

I agree with you.  Its tough to find much information on any schools between 50 and 100.  It just so happens that that is where most of my schools are :) But maybe just a section on Tier 2 schools....

So in this time of anticipation I wish that all the schools I applied to had status checkers, not just Hastings.  I check that thing compulsively.  The mail only comes once a day and the status checker for all the other schools would be there to feed my addiction   ::)

Where should I go next fall? / Re: Hastings Status Checker

It took a while but I have now successfully logged on.  The darn thing still says 'complete- ready for review'.  Here I was hoping that it was down cause they loaded a bunch of decisions and it crashed the system ;) I guess in a way no news is good news.   ::)
