Choosing the Right Law School / Need help re: GULC vs. GW
« on: April 27, 2006, 08:26:07 PM »
Obviously, all else being equal, it'd be GULC over GW. But GW offered me a Presidential Scholarship - 15k a year + a faculty mentorship.

I want to do IP law in DC after I graduate. I am probably going to chose GULC, but wanted to make sure the bump from GULC was worth sacrificing the 45k and personal attention.

Got in off PPWL on Monday with email followed by fedex with a nive package of info on tuesday.

I'm going if I can get myself to turn down 60K at GW.

LSAT: 171
GPA: 3.8

I am also likely going to take GULC but I was offered 45k at GW.  I want to do IP was well, for which GW is a plus.

What are you leaning towards?

Accepted off the waitlist at Georgetown today!

Finally my procrastination has reaped some benefits.  Had I already sent in that other deposit, I would be out $200.

Wow, super congratulations.  I'm a fellow PWL person, so I'm a little jealous.  You were PPWL though, right?

Just wondering, did you do anything like write extra letters of interest?

I sent them emails of continuing interest.  Didn't do anything terribly elaborate.  And yeah, I was on the PPWL.

Acceptances, Denials, and Waitlists / Georgetown Waitlist is moving

I'm in this week's group as well. Best of luck, everyone- I hope we'll all meet at GULC in the fall. ARRRGH, the waiting, the waiting...

What did you think of the email?  I thought it was pretty auspicious considering they instructed us to apply for financial aid and wanted a quick response if GULC was still our first choice.

I like those odds.

I'm glad to hear that.  I think people's odds of getting off waitlists are too low to be hopeful, but its worth holding on to the chance.

Yeah, I think whoever said 50/50 was overstating things.  You have to imagine that a place like GULC waitlists a large number of people.  But since I am planning on GW, GULC wouldn't be a hard switch midway through the summer.

I received a G'town update saying the same thing.  I think the key part is this sentence:

"The Committee is in the process of looking at our Preferred Waiting List candidates, and they have asked me to let you know that you are in a group that they will be looking at in the next week or so."

This is probably a good sign, and another chance to reiterate interest.  The fact that they are reviewing our apps BEFORE the deposit deadline makes me cautiously optimistic.

I am FT by the way.

Choosing the Right Law School / GW vs ND($$)

GW w/no money vs. ND w/15k/yr

Want to do IP law.

Don't care about Chi vs. DC.  Could see myself in either place.
