I usually feel that if you have to question it then you have your answer right there.

I have them all in MP3.  I don't know what kind of line it crosses.  I suppose if people could show they bought it, there shouldn't be a problem.

the time estimated is based on how long the program is.  You have to record them in real time.  You will need to change tapes, so you can't just let it run overnight etc.

For me at least, it wasn't worth the time/effort to do it from tape. But then again I am an old man by this board's demographics!  But there was definitely time where I would have been game to tinker etc.  Plus my wife would kill me if I need to spend more time than I already do at the computer :)

If a bunch of you guys are in the same boat, you should pool your resources and share the fruits of your labor!

that's me.  Full time job and starting law school.  As Kennedy put it "we choose to go to the moon in this decade ... not because it is easy, but because it is hard"

if you have the full version of Nero you can do this.  You need the right cable to go from your cassette to the sound card input (which is probaly an 1/8" stereo jack.)  If you have a walkman, you can probably go from the headphone out to the soundcard in (in this case 1/8" to 1/8" stereo jack).  Just check the input gain on the software and make sure you don't overload it.

It will take you 10 hours + hours to play and record it.  Plus a little more to turn them into MP3s.

There are lots of other software you can use to do this.  Even the included Microsoft Sound recorder.  Nero's wave editor is more flexible (and you may already have it on your PC).

Most software will record to .wav file first (which takes about 10 meg per minute).  If you record to .wav convert it to mp3 afterward.  You can use free software like EAC (Exact Audio Copy).  EAC is cool because it can detect silence and create tracks for you out of the 1 long file you record. Google it.

I stopped buying compaqs as of 2 years ago.  We had ordered 6 (I work in IT).  4 died within 6 months and 2 have serious overheating problems.  Maybe the newer ones are better.

Honestly, I order and deploy at least 50 laptops per year.  I have yet to see any one brand not have any problems.  Best of the bunch to me are Thinkpads.  Whatever you get, back up your data!

I applied around march 15 and heard from them about 3 weeks later.  They offered me nice $$ but I had to turn it down as it looks like I will be staying in the NYC area and can't move upstate right now.
