Choosing the Right Law School / Re: USD.. Where are you......?
« on: April 15, 2005, 07:07:10 PM »
hey all.  Just wanted to let you know that I went to admit day a few weeks ago and talked to the dean of admisssions who said that since USD takes the Febuary LSAT, they accept people later then most other law schools.  I think he told me at the time, which i think was april 4th, there were still probably about 150 more acceptances they were gonna give.  Plus with their 1st deposit deadline already April 1st, they may have even more acceptances to give.  So don't lose hope, best of luck  to everyone.  Hope to see you there next year.

Southwestern is about 35 miles from Thousand Oaks.  With traffic it will probably take you 45-90 minutes depending on what time u drive

I'll be there as well.  looking forward to meeting all of you.  has anyone started looking into housing yet?  Ive been looking a little on craigslist and sandiego reader and it seems fairly reasonable, at least compared to LA prices.

Incoming 1Ls / Question about Work Study
« on: April 08, 2005, 03:14:59 PM »
I just recieved my finanical aid letter and besides the loans and other aid it also mentions work study.  I don't really know too much about work study, is it generally advised not to do this first year?  Are most of the work study jobs research jobs?  Any information or advice anyone has would be appreciated.  Thanks.

I dont know much about u of Illinois, but do you know where in California you want to work?  USD has a very good reputation in Southern California, esp in San Diego where it is the only major top 100 law schhol.  But if you want to stay up in the Bay area then Santa Clara would probably be better, but you do have a lot of higher ranked schools you are competing with up there.  i dont know when it comes to what kind of law you want to do if you should let that affect your decision as much, probably where you want to practice should be a deciding factor.  I sat next to a family law professor at USD during admit day and he seemed like a very frinedly, down to earth guy and had taught there for 30 years.  Anyway, good luck with your decision

Well good luck, hopefully Loyola comes back with a matching offer for you, and really soon so you can send in your deposit on time.  i decided not to try to ask Loyola to match because i think i would probably go to san Diego anyway even if they matched it, i am probably sending in my deposit tomorrow
