Law Firms / Do big firms hire from their support staff??
« on: July 25, 2005, 12:47:16 PM »
I'm just curious, but does anyone know if big law firms will hire you on as an attorney (once you get your degree, of course) after you've been working there as a legal assistant/paralegal/secretary??  The reason I ask is that I'm going to an evening program, but I've heard that big firms frown upon evening students...but I was wondering if I were to get my foot in the door another way, would they give me a chance??

Any input would be helpful...thank you.

I don't understand why someone "glad" not to be coming to USF would bother to troll this thread.

HAHAHAHA...my thoughts exactly...

thanks for all the congrats!  kudos to all of you for making it in as well.

i will also be working part time at the law firm i am currently working at.  i'm hoping it won't be too stressful.

yes i'm looking forward to meeting all of you part-timers in the fall.  hopefully it'll be a good time.  ;D

well usf is third tier as of this year's us news rankings...it used to be second tier.  chapman is fourth tier.

chapman has granted me an 18k scholarship for the first year.  usf has given me nothing, but i would be working part time, so i guess it would come out to be equal in terms of debt.

i just don't know if i want to attend an evening program.  i've heard that it's the same quality education as the day program, but does anyone know anything else??  pros...cons...thoughts??  please??  thanks.

any opinions??

hey everyone,

i've just recently been admitted off the waitlist into usf's evening program.  i originally applied to the day program, so i don't know much about the evening program.  is anyone else attending as well?

thanks for all the help and suggestions!

i guess after hearing about metrolink (thanks dodgerlaw), living in cities around orange won't be so bad either.  are there any particular cities i should NOT live in??

yeah i'm waitlisted at usd, too!!  and usf.  but if neither of those work, then chapman it is...i hope it won't be a disappointment.

i've checked on craigslist, but i haven't found much.  i've also been looking on apartmentguide.com and rent.com.  i've heard it's expensive, but i didn't think it'd be that expensive.  it's almost as much as having a place in san francisco.  :-\
