looking quickly through all the posts on this section of the site - it looks like the threads for yale, stanford, and harvard are the only ones that have more activity than Miami - very interesting.

i am about half way through buffalo creek - and it is a good read.  i was trying to think of what the professors would want me to get out of it.  so far, i know a little about the requirements needed to sue in federal court as opposed to state. someone could probably read this book in one weekend.

--just wanted to add that the only reason i am reading buffalo creek is because someone was selling it for a quarter and so i bought it.  the thing about where to sue was only a couple of sentences - nothing major.

i know alot of people were planning on renting, but for those who were planning on buying www.ewm.com is a pretty good site.  they have pictures and comparable price listings.  plus, they also advertise some very expensive Miami homes - for those of us that would like to dream.

In terms of entertainment, are there other places other than South Beach to hang out at (places that are'nt so touristy) like bars and lounges.

Also whats the deal with the grade curve at Miami?  I know it was mentioned somewhere before.  I think at Miami, it is something like a B+ or B.  What does it mean to have a B+/B grade curve?

I believe it is offically a B curve but a student I talked to said everybody thinks it is actually more like a C+.

so if it is a C+, what does this mean?  does it mean the highest grade anyone can get is a C+? i know some schools limit the number of A's, B's, and C's assigned in a class.  So how would this work at Miami?  For example, for a class of 50 people, would that translate only to 5 to 8 A's?

OH MY GOSH I just got off hold and I'm in at UMaryland!!! I received the phone call 10 minutes ago, and I have a seat in the fall 2005 class. I can't believe it, UMaryland here I come!! Good Luck to everyone, and I'll be withdrawing my applications from UConn, Temple, Rutgers, Ohio State, Hofstra and Northeastern. To those on the UMaryland hold list - you can do it!! :)

KirbytheWhite, just wondering what exactly did you say to the Director of Admssions?  I am not on hold at MD, but I am on hold elsewhere.  I also havent been able to get a hold of the Director of Admissions - so I guess I will have to write a letter.

Hi Venicejazz..

i was the previous poster who Dj'ed once upon a time.. but also lived for two summers in japan (with japanese host families).. one in Kagoshima and one in Tsukuba (about an hour west of tokyo).. where abouts in japan were you?

Anyhow, welcome.. like you i think everybody I've met on here and on campus seemed great.. i cant wait to put faces to all these funky names on here..

good luck with job hunting in Boston and apt hunting in Miami!

Hello all! So I'm officiall going to Miami in the fall. I can't wait! I never thought it would be the kind of city I would want to live in, but after visiting and reading about it, I stand corrected. I'm a little intimidated about finding an apartment, but I'm confident that it will work out. I'm 26, currently in Boston looking for a brief summer job. Spent the last few years in Japan. What else? I love books and music above all things, and wine just after. Proximity to the ocean is essential to me.  Right now as I'm typing this I'm looking out at boats going by.  :D My favorite foods are sushi, honest-to-G-d Italian food, and curry. Like a previous poster, I was a DJ during college, though I've lost any skills I might once have had. That's about it. Can't wait to meet you all. The prospective students I met while visiting were amazing, really nice and not at all arrogant. You all seem great too. Talk to you later.

So what type of music do you spin? Any Acosta in there?

have any of the out-of-towners started looking for apartments yet?  i was thinking of using a referral/apt. finder service.  is this a good idea?  do you think they can find something pretty nice/cheap?
