Law School Applications / Re: Palestinian = URM???
« on: July 15, 2005, 12:41:09 AM »
just check off the box that best represents your heritage on the application.. write a nice personal statement about your background.. but dont ask US if you are a URM..

I'm Hispanic and i dont remember checking off a box on my application that asked if I was a URM.. nor did I write a PS about it.. I'm who I am.. I never sought out a URM status.. I dont endorse or condemn it either.. if you're a good fit with the top schools, they'll take you.. if not, there are plenty of non t-14 schools that will..

Don't stress about this and work on your PS and other parts of your application that you DO have control over..

hey Linzy..

dunno which way you are going.. but if you're near 395 just hope onto it and take 95 South till it ends (which merges with US1).. thats the way I plan on going.. that way you avoid the bulk of downtown/bayside traffic..

Have fun on your cruise!! I'm going on a cruise to Cozumel on August 1st.. hopefully there will be no hurricanes around then either.. you should be fine..

Where should I go next fall? / Re: Dual Degree? MBA and JD
« on: July 13, 2005, 11:09:47 AM »
I'm actually thinking of doing it and am scheduled to take the GMAt this Saturday..

I have 3 lawyer friends (at big law firms).. one has an MBA and says that its great to have the business background when dealing with financial institutions (he does only corporate law).. my other friend is in litigation at a another big law firm.. she says she doesnt need it.. but she's been wanting to go into in-house counsel at a corporation and the MBA is usually required or needed for that type of work, so she kind of wishes she had one to have more options.. and my other friend is currently doing a weekend MBA program with my boyfriend and says that she just wants it to have more employment options..

So after talking to them, i figured I may as well knock it out in an extra year.. and you dont necessarily have to take summer courses (at least at Miami).. so you're at no disadvantage from the other students.. actually, you'll have an extra summer to fill up with jobs and internships.. and you can do a business internship during one summer and two law internships or whatever..

I think it depends on what your goals are whether its beneficial or not.. but i agree with the above poster that said to not get it if you just want it on your resume.. get it because you'll think it'll have some practical use for it in the future..

Also, some big law firms will start you with a Second Year Associate's salary if you do the JD/MBA option...so you're not missing out there either..

I wouldn't want to steal Twarga's thunder.. this is her thread.. and its only fair to include descriptions of her poop..

I'd start my own thread, but really.. can I even compare to this??

YES!  I LOVE this thread.. its been my favorite so far..

Making me jealous.. my poop is not nearly as exciting..

keep the updates coming..

(yes, i believe there is no such thing as too much information)

Why don't you go ahead and tell us about your poops anyway?

ooooh! I just discovered we can log into the EASY system.. and check all sorts of things..

From the UM homepage.. click on "EASY" on top.. and you can create your account as a newly admitted student..

I did it mostly to verify that they had received my immunization records (which they had)..

I guess eventually everything from our grades, to our finances, to our prescription refills (?), and our voting for law school elections will be handled through that site..

I have 9 more days of work left.. i cant wait for this to be all over and for school to start (I probably will regret saying that in a few months)..

In the meantime, I finally ordered my laptop (yay!) and am redecorating my room to be more student-life-friendly.. and I've been studying for the GMAT (which i take this Saturday).. in case i decide to pursue the JD/MBA option..

blah blah.. anyhow.. a busy couple of months ahead..
