Current Law Students / NALP question
« on: November 29, 2005, 04:57:03 PM »
Question about NALP guidelines. Is the Dec. 1 criterion applicable to legal employers that aren't members of NALP?

On Nov. 1 and 2 we had meetings with Career Services and they went over resumes, job search etc.  But the whole session was rather vague.  We were given a handout/timeline that told us that among our tasks for November were: oreint yourself with, input your profile, review job postings in CS newsletter and on eAttorney and apply for summer positions.

Then, for December, it listed:  "**December 1: If interested in large firms, send resumes to firms interested in hiring 1Ls for summer positions.**"  It then lists the same tasks as November.

So, are 1Ls allowed to apply for jobs with non-NALP employers before Dec. 1?  I assumed that we were, based on the timeline handout, and so did another classmate of mine.  Both of us have contacts that we sent resumes to last week.  Is this wrong?  (If so, how do we rectify the mistake?)

Law School Admissions / Touro and Hofstra
« on: May 25, 2006, 05:15:54 PM »
Is it worth transferring from Touro to Hofstra? Touro is a tier 4, but is moving out to Central Islip to be near the federal court complex (granted there are a ton of pros and cons about this).  Hofstra is now a tier three, bordering on the edge of tier 2.  Touro is moving out further to Long Island, which could be good and could be bad.  Hofstra is stable in Hempstead and has been around a little bit longer.  Is Hofstra's reputation that much better?

Any help would be appreciated.  My application is due this week.

They broke ground in February and have a projected completion date of Fall 2006... How long do you think it will take to pull Touro out of the 4th tier once this is up?  It will be the only fully integrated court system and law school in the country.

Law School Admissions / LSAT score and transferring
« on: June 08, 2005, 02:04:57 PM »
So here's the deal...I applied to a bunch of schools this year, got into a few and waitlisted at my top choice.  As a result of the waitlist, I decided to go ahead and take the June LSAT in hopes of getting a higher score so I could get off of the list.  Turns out, I had a crappy test day (again) and don't think I went up.  I am, however, already in at a few schools.  Question is this:  do I cancel the score or take the hit, go to the school I am already in at and just try to transfer out after my first year?

Do law schools look at the lsat for transfer students?

Choosing the Right Law School / "The decision is in the mail"
« on: May 24, 2005, 02:03:55 PM »
So I called the admissions office of a school I've been waiting to hear back from since January 3rd today and when I asked about my status, the receptionist uttered those famous words" the decision is in the mail."

Is it safe to assume its a rejection/waitlist
