Hi, can any other Yale admits give some info on admit weekend?  When I received the phone call, I was told that there will be one on 3/27 and one on 4/24... then I realized these are both Mondays, which seemed strange.  And how many days do these admit weekends last?

i believe it's just april 9-10

I really really want to go.

you should... i'll be there...

Law School Applications / Re: Call from Harvard
« on: January 15, 2006, 04:41:43 AM »
He asked me about my current job, asked me if I wanted to continue do public interest stuff in law (I have a lot on my resume), and we talked about Chicago for a little bit. It was pretty short (~8 minutes). I don't think anything we discussed would affect my application one way or another, so it makes me wonder what the point of the phone call really was. Maybe it's just to make sure you're not a jerk or psycho, like other posters on LSD have suggested  ???

yea, seriously... the phone interview seems to be not be about anything terribly relevant that would affect your candidacy one way or the other, outside of testing your social ineptitude... also, i'm like beyond belief not of the sober mind right now... so i'm not sure why i'm adding lsd to the mix... but the call as i've said a million times is very casual and consists of toby trying to make conversation about stuff that appears to be of interest for you...

Sad, because the weather would make it a strong contender :P.

Same here.

60

8:00 AM:  Her daughters are at her side, holding her hands. Her granddaughters lean helplessly against the wall, quiet tears trickling down young faces.  Her husband of sixty years sits in a bedside chair, face impassive.  An empty vase adorns a shelf.  “Roses,” I’m told.  “Her favorite.  Can’t have them in here.”

Monitors beep, oxygen whooshes. Outside the room, life continues.  Inside the room, life ends.

Blood pressure-75/45. Pulse-60. Respiration-12.

8:04 AM:   I stand there silently.  Every few moments, she takes a deep, shuddering breath.

Blood pressure-57/31. Pulse-47. Respiration-9.

8:11 AM:  Her family murmurs soft words of love and goodbye. An orderly peeks in. Sounds of life continue in the corridor beyond.

Blood pressure-43/22. Pulse-34. Respiration-7.

8:14 AM:  I lean over, put my hand on her forehead. It’s cold. I whisper in her ear, “May the Lord bless you, may the Lord keep you, may the Lord lift up his face to shine upon you, and give you peace. He’s promised you a place with him forever. Don't be afraid.”

Blood pressure-31/9. Pulse-17. Respiration-4.

8:20 AM:  The doctor enters, asks about an autopsy. They decline. “I’m sorry,” he says.

Blood pressure-16/5. Pulse-9. Respiration-2.

8:26 AM:   A nurse shuts off the oxygen and monitor alarms. The silence is deafening.

Blood pressure-0. Pulse-0. Respiration-0.

8:28 AM:   She takes one last breath, and sighs. Then she is gone. Outside, life goes on, oblivious to the holiness of this moment.  A tear slides slowly down my cheek.

And for a fleeting instant, I catch the scent of roses.

I'm not as big a fan unforatunately as some of the prior respondents. The events are interseting, of course. But it leaves me wondering: 1) who are you, and how are you connected to the patient? 2) Do you honestly smell roses at the end? 3) Why are you writing about death, without explaining how this death is personally connected to you? Does the fact that you watched someone die make you stand out in a helpful way?

i mostly second these sentiments, which is why i'm not sure i'm sold on it for a 250 or an ls essay in general... but i did enjoy reading it, and i liked it for what it was... but i'm not sure how much it actually tells us about the writer or what it adds to your application
