Current Law Students / Hofstra or NYLS for NYC law?
« on: June 21, 2005, 11:58:44 AM »
I like NYLS's location but am wondering which is best for working in NYC after school. Preferably in a firm.  I know it will be hard to work in a big firm coming from either school.

Current Law Students / Can someone please help me decide on NYLS??

Hi. I have been admitted to NYLS but don't know if I should go.  I graduated in 2004 and have been working at a Big 4 Accounting firm. I hate my job. I know that a Bachelor's degree is nothing anymore so I definitely want to continue my studies. I know I want to go to law school but I need help in deciding if NYLS is the one, as I haven't been accepted anywhere else.  I am waitlisted at St. John's and would LOVE to go there but I think that getting in off the waitlist is a lost cause.  I know that NYLS is 3rd tier so I need to know if taking on so much debt is even worth it. I keep hearing that NYLS has bad job prospects and that I will have to be in the top 10% to get a good job.  I just don't want to go to law school and get a job where my starting salary is $60,000 a year.  With the loans I'll have, I won't be able to live on that.  Also, I took the LSAT twice already 151/155 and I don't think I'll be taking it again. So should I re-apply next year? I'm so upset b/c I thought that I had my life planned out and then I didn't get in anywhere! I have no idea what to do with my life now. UGHH

Current Law Students / Starting to get scared

I just got accepted to NYLS from the waitlist.  This is my only acceptance, so for a while before this, I didn't think that law school was going to happen for me.  I was really upset and depressed b/c I had based my future around going. When I first got the NYLS acceptance, I was ecstatic. Now that I'm thinking of all the debt I will have, I'm starting to get very nervous. People are telling me to make sure that I want to go law school 100% before committing to this.  My problem is that I don't think I am 100% sure. I worked for as a paralegal for a year during college and that was when I decided to pursue law. I've been out of school for a year now. Are these pre 1L jitters or should I re-think the whole thing?

Choosing the Right Law School / Hofstra or NYLS for NYC law?

I like NYLS's location but I understand that Hofstra is ranked higher.  Which would be better if planning to work in NYC after school. I would like to work in a firm (I already know I prob wont be able to work in biglaw).

Acceptances, Denials, and Waitlists / St. John's

So I'm on St. John's waitlist and just got accepted to NYLS off the waitlist.  I really really want to go to St. John's.  Is there anything that I could do to find out if I have a chance of getting in?? I've been calling them and they keep saying that they will be using the waitlist.  They've been saying this for about 3 months now and I haven't heard of anyone getting off of it. I don't want to put in a deposit at NYLS and then get in to St.John's.  I know that a lot of people are having this problem now but does anyone have any ideas??

Acceptances, Denials, and Waitlists / In off NYLS's waitlist

Someone called me yesterday asking if I was still interested and then I received an e-mail this morning from the dean about an admitted students online chat next week.  I'm still waiting on St. John's and Hofstra though. How do Hofstra and NYLS compare to each other?

I want to contact St. John's and NYLS to find out what their waitlist situation is and to let them know that I am still very interested.  Who should I contact? Should I e-mail the dean of admissions?

Sent them a letter of continued interest as well as additional letters of recc.  Wanted to know if anyone has heard anything.

Has anyone heard anything about movement on this waitlist?  I think that their first deposit was April 15th so I'm wondering if anyone heard anything.

Are you sending anything besides a letter of continued interest?  I was deferred in January, already sent them a love letter, and am now waitlisted.  What should I do now?
