less safe areas??? :o  how unsafe are we talking here? I lived in nyc and bkk so I'm hoping I won't be too phased by downtown albany. but you never know... did u feel you were in danger in those areas or just being on the safe side. must be nice to have a car *jealous glare*

hey loulie, thanks anyway for the apartment info. good to know. I am freaking out about whether or not I need a car. I moved to Japan six years ago right after college and let my license expired which means I couldn't get a car even if I could afford it. I also really do not want to dorm.
I was checking out renterguidealbany.com  and using mapquest to get an idea of how far things are from the school.Maybe this can be helpful to you mpfg. I'm willing to walk up to 30 minutes to school if it's a nice enough place. I wish I did have a car though *sigh*

THANK YOU!!!!!! I was a bit torn about my decision but hearing so many positive things about Albany has really helped. I'm doing a lot of my research online be(cause I can't really be there until D-day. I'm digging hard for dirt and negative things about the school to brace myself but have not found ANYTHING. things are looking good. I had read somewhere that it's a really competitive school. That's kind of a turn-off but it's nothing I can't deal with I guess. I do have some concerns about social life there though, I'll be going there totally alone. Family and friends in other countries. Is there a friendly atmosphere?  So many questions and only a few more months to go. eek!

Acceptances / Re: Accepted/Rejected/Haven't heard from Albany

Hey. been reading and all your posts have been really helpful. I'm heading to Albany in the fall. Have any of you visited the law school? Does anyone know if it's possible to get a nice apartment that's within walking distance? Is it easy to get around on campus? I'm getting freaked coz I'm basically going to be renting sight unseen ( living in Japan ) not arriving in Albany til 3 weeks before school which may be to late to run around and find a place.
Any information would be great.

Thanks CheezWiz! Have no idea what the standards are. got my letter on the 11th; my application was sent in Dec.27 and completed maybe in the second week of January. Oh, it came in a big gray envelope, and the very next day I got the Academic Catalogue ( which looks great, the professors and courses seem impressive) and Financial Aid Information package. My stats are not great, 157 LSAT/ 2.17 GPA /lots of community service activities and academic probation but my addendum explained that I was working 60 hours+ a week throughout undergrad thus the probation and graduated 2 years late. Since then I've been working in Japan for 6 years. Almost 6 a.m in Yokohama and I'm crossing my fingers for YOU!  :D good luck

Where should I go next fall? / Albany vs Touro??
« on: March 10, 2005, 09:29:48 PM »
Feeling lucky that I got in someplace AND have a choice, but now I have no idea what to do. Been reading mixed reviews about both schools. Albany ranks better obviously, but by how much? Touro came with money, but is it worth it? Is it possible to get into an organization like UNICEF from either school? Still waiting to hear from every other law school in the world but not hopeful. Been out of school for 6 years ,working in an unrelated field in another country. Have to make a decision soon. any thoughts anyone? ???
