Law School Admissions / Re: Letters of Acceptance

In at Baylor!!!!!!!!!!

I am Shocked!
Now I must decide between Tech and Baylor.
In: STCL, Tech, U of Ark, Baylor
Out: UT, UH
Deferred: SMU
Waiting: Tulane, W&M W&L

Miracles do happen!

I applied this time around.
2.95/164 from UT-Austin.
And I applied all over texas and our numbers are pretty close. I can tell you that at UH there is little chance (last years medians = 160/3.57) and they like GPA.-- I was an auto-reject there.

UT actually took longer to ding me.
STCL should be a no-brainer (possible $$).
I would tell ya that if you dont mind the location check out Texas Tech I'm probably going there and they gave me 50% tuition $$. Secular school, easier numbers, still decent rep.

In addition to the ones above that I'm still waiting on. I was dinged at UT and UHouston(ED). I've been accepted at Texas Tech($) U of Arkansas (both) ($) and South Texas CL (possible $). The two "W" schools are W&M W&L -- the two USNEWS whores.

I disagree. I got 50% tuition and I was NOT ED-- but i did apply rather early in the process-- complete 12/1 to Tech that is.

Yeah, came with the acceptance-- only 50% Tuition though.. some others have fullrides.

Did you're letter not say anything about merit aid?

Permian Basin is -- well the basin out in West Texas with lots of oil. look a map of major cities around there-- Odessa, Midland.. and nothing for a good 300 miles, I drove out there a few times, after Ft. Stockton no radio stations (AM or FM) till El Paso.... Ever seen your radio seek button go ALL the way through the dial without finding a single station ? :P

I guess my feeling about that comes from the barriers to entry. Compare DeVry and U. of Illinois, both are accreditted fully and offer totally legit degrees but one is much harder to get into than the other-- possibly harder to succeed once you're in?(not sure about this) and I have no idea what grade inflation is like at DeVry but my instinct is that its pretty rampant. An "A" from UI may not be like an "A" from DeVry.
On a similar idea-- compare flagship schools to satelites--
how would an adcomm compare a 3.5 at UT-Austin to a 3.5 and UT-Permian Basin (anyone even know where that is? :P)

disclaimer-- sorry if that came out snooty on the first post-- not intended that way and this is also mostly what i think not a fact-- im no adcomm :P

EDIT: i thought of this later-- comparing DeVry to UI is like comparing U. of Virginia to Texas Southern U.
Both are accreditted and teach law -- but one piece of paper probably means a lot more than the other.

I went complete to 7 schools by 12/15, ED at 2.
When the EDs went 1 ding 1 deferral I freaked.
Sent out 3 more apps-- Complete 2/5 or so.
By 3/5 I've heard from all those 'freak out' apps and have been accepted. However I have only heard from 1 additional school from the original 7-- ding.

Maybe its time to apply to a couple of extra safeties?

BTW-W&L W&M - these are two school notorious for sending fee waivers to marginal applicants who often have very little chance of getting admitted-- but these students bump up their stats on the US news ranking.-- So don't count on them.

Mind me asking where else you applied that you're still waiting on?

I'm still waiting at SMU, Baylor, Tulane (and the two W schools) and my numbers are very similar-- 2.95/164 UG at UT-Austin.

Good luck!

Woohoo, got some scholarship info from Arkansas-Fayetteville.. enough to offset the out-of-state tuition, and in at STCL with them telling me I have to ask for merit aid-- (what the hell?) so far no offer has met or beaten Tech's offer.

Anyone want my STCL letter? :P

ILRG has the average income for those graduates. Someone can correct me but Stanford/Boalt/UCLA I remember as being all 100k+ starting average. If you go to those schools are top 3rd or so I'm sure you can meet or beat what your making now.

U. San Diego has pretty good $$ if I remember correctly. Run the numbers and remember that if you're top 5% at USD you can probably beat that six-figure mark too.
