I just got into my #1 choice off the waitlist after I was told chances of this occuring were "slim to none".  Unfortunately, I manage a small firm and told them I would stay b/c I was going to reapply to my #1 choice next cycle.   My fiance and I have been operating since June on the premise that I was going to school next fall.  Now I feel like kind of a jerk for asking my 1st choice for a deferral and have taken heat for it on this board as well.

Anyone else have this issue come up?

I don't want to start law school after burning a bridge with my current employer, hurting clients who have depended on me for years, being freaked out over housing and the move, not being able to have the SO come with me and not having enough cash saved.

As some of you remember, I withdrew all my other apps a while ago.

I was pulling into a concert venue lot when I got a phone call from WI - I am in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Law School Admissions / If you are new here

Please search some of the old thread topics to see if they answer your questions before posting a new thread.  Much of the info you need has already been posted ad nauseum over the past year!  Also, check the schools' "prospective students" webpages and for info that is more reliable than the stuff posted here.

The search function is the center blue button at the top of the page.

Just kidding, but I thought it was pretty funny!

Acceptances, Denials, and Waitlists / News from Wisconsin via email
« on: May 23, 2005, 12:55:18 PM »
I just received the following email from Wisconsin:

We are writing to thank you for your application to the University of Wisconsin Law School and to update you on your status.

In previous correspondences we stated that applicants on the hold list would either be admitted or placed on the wait list.  At this time, we have decided to move all applicants who remain on the hold list to our wait list.  As you may know, we received nearly 3200 applications for the 270 seats available in the Fall 2005 incoming class.  As I have shared with some of you already, we currently have over 300 people who have accepted our offer of admission, and have communicated to us their intent to enroll.

While we are certainly gratified by the response we have received, it means that we are in the unenviable position of asking a very small group of highly credentialed applicants to continue to wait for a possible opening in the entering first year class.   We are unable to predict how many seats in the entering first year class will open up.  There might be a very slight possibility of available seats, or we might have no vacancies at all to be filled from the wait list.  If at any point it becomes clear that you are no longer interested in remaining on the wait list, please let us know.  We appreciate your patience during this process.

Incoming 1Ls / Quality of professors? One way to look at it.

This is a list of downloaded law authors.  I think you need to register on SSRN to access it, but it's a nice way to see who is publishing what and how many people are interested in what they have to say.

Got the info from this blog:

General Off-Topic Board / This made me think of Julie Fern
« on: May 05, 2005, 10:35:07 AM »
A friend posted this on another board today and I thought it was posted by Julie:

Hung Chow calls in to work and says, "Hey, boss I not come work today, I really sick. I got headache, stomachache and my legs hurt. I not come work."

The boss says, "You know, Hung Chow, I really need you today. When I feel like this I go to my wife and tell her give me sex. That makes everything better and I go work. You try that."

Two hours later Hung Chow calls again: "Boss, I do what you say and I feel great. I be at work soon. You got nice house."...

Incoming 1Ls / Other lawyers in your family?
« on: April 28, 2005, 12:58:23 PM »
I noticed that a lot of the attorneys that work/worked here have a lot of family members who also are.  One guy had two siblings and his father.  Another has his dad, sister and himself all in the field.

Just curious as to how many are going into the "family business"?

Did you start getting the "Indiana Law Annotated" emails every Monday before you got accepted, or after?

I applied months ago, and never got this email (which seems to be for students) until today.

Is that a good sign?  I am trapped here at work until 6 pm and am dying b/c I can't check the mail at home!
