Visits, Admit Days, and Open Houses / Re: Vandy v. Emory
« on: April 04, 2005, 09:24:57 PM »
Leiter and a few other people who comment on the rankings have indicated that they think Emory (and a handful of other schools) is ranked too low in the new USNWR rankings. The main change for Emory was their "employed at graduation rate", which dropped from a high 80s to a low 60s for the last reporting cycle. I have heard talk that the stat was misreported for Emory, although this is unconfirmed and I can't remember where I heard it. I also have heard that different schools interperet and thus report this stat diffferently. Again, all unconfirmed.

I am likely heading to Emory, and I was slightly concerned by the drop, but not overly concerned. Historically Emory has been a mid-20s USNWR school, and the "other" rankings put it around 25. The drop will probably push me to pursue one of my many waitlists a little harder, but if I end up at Emory, I'll be fine with it (except for the tuition, which is obviously astronomic). My 9 cents.

I'll be there, going to the reception friday night at some state senators house I think, then the whole day saturday. Did anyone else get the "assignment" for the mock class. I couldn't open it. I know noone else going unfortunately. I've already visited, but I am looking forward to going again.

I am in the same boat as murky

Im in the same boat as mimi, provisional listed in Jan, but no recent update, although the original letter said they would make offers in April/May, depending on deposits, etc.

Choosing the Right Law School / Re: Wake Forest Reputation

My impression, generally well regarded for those who want to work in the Southeast, and it possibly overlaps a bit with the DC market. Mainly its a southeastern school, but still a good place. On the plus side, for a private school its relatively cheap (roughly 26 grand) and is usually ranked as one of the "best buys" for a legal education.

Choosing the Right Law School / Re: UNC vs. W&L vs. Emory

HERE I AM. 8 waitlists and still going strong. Well not really strong, I now only have UNC left to hear from, but I could very realistically see them being my 9th waitlist. Looks like my waiting continues.

Agreed, I don't think there is much question about Vandy being a notch above Emory, I would definitely agree with that statement, whether Emory was at its old spot, or at its new one.

Like many others, I regard USNWR with a fair amount of skepticism. I realize I am getting away from the original Vandy v. Emory debate, but I was just looking for other impressions on Emory's movement. If anyone else is in a similar position, I'd appreciate feedback.

In all seriousness though, I have been and still am considering Emory. I know it isnt a "TTTID" in reality, and I know that rankings must be taken with a large, large grain of salt, but should a drop such as that concern a potential student? Does it concern anyone else here? Anyone else considering Emory as well, but wondering whats up with the drop?

Acceptances, Denials, and Waitlists / Re: Washington and Lee Waitlist

Im on  8 waitlists, including W and L. Anyone else notice how W and L's waitlist info sheet was, word for word, almost exactly identical to UVA's? Whats up with that?
