Where should I go next fall? / Re: Loyola New Orleans v. Denver
« on: February 22, 2005, 12:06:06 PM »
I will try to add something constructive rather than joking around.  I don't know anything about Denver.

I applied to Loyola-NO after I met with a Loyola alumnus.  He is a trial attorney in PA and NJ.  He was extremely enthusiastic about the school.

Basically, this was what he told me.

Advantages:

Night life is great for depressurizing after finals, studying, etc.
It is warm
Large city
Good place to study international law (England, US, and Australia are lone common law countries)
Produces good trial attorneys
Great alumni network
Easy to get a night job if needed (many places open 24hrs)

Disadvantages:
Lower bar passage rate
Can be expensive without scholarships
You have to pick common law, civil law, or combined curriculum (could be an advantage??)
Competition among Tulane, LSU for local jobs
It gets humid in NO

I got a 20k per year to Loyola with a 3.4 and a 155. My scholarship came in the mail with my acceptance. I'm sure with your numbers you will get something also. I didn't apply to LSU.

That just made me feel a whole lot better towards that school!!

Wait List / Re: Wait Listed at Stetson?!?

I would hang on for a little while.  Once the financial aid offers start rolling in, I think a lot of people will withdraw from there because of the crappy aid package.

I hear you on IS.  I am an IST major at Penn State.  Mostly got into that in case I didn't go to law school.  I am working as a software developer right now.  IT BLOWS!!!  Probably a sweet gig if you have a good idea and enough $$ to run your own business.

I should have done my English major instead of the minor, but at least I can do some cool stuff on the laptop now.

General Off-Topic Board / Re: Paul Hewson "Bono" gets NOBEL PEACE PRIZE NOD
« on: February 22, 2005, 12:01:12 AM »
I remember reading about this the last time nominations came around.  Apparently, it isn't that difficult to gain a nomination.  If I remember right George W., Hitler, Stalin were all nominated.

I think they do a pretty good job of picking the awardees though.

Non-Traditional Students / Re: Why are you "Non Traditional"
« on: February 21, 2005, 09:42:35 AM »

Now, aside from being white and male I'm sure I qualify as a URM.  Afterall, how many French majors join the military?!?   ;)

My old platoon leader was a German major.....lol.

Why am I a non-trad?  27 divorced, single father of a 9 year old.  Looking forward to law school where the age difference isn't as great.  Getting married again this summer, so regardless of the night scene (the few nights of the year where I could actually go out) I will probably spend it all with my family.

So far I am pretty much decided on Stetson.  At least I will be the youngest guy in St. Petersburg.  The median age there is pretty high.
