Visits, Admit Days, and Open Houses / Re: The Four UC's
« on: February 19, 2005, 02:23:18 AM »
I go to UCSD, came from UCI-area, and have strong opinions on the UCs.

1. UCD is cow land in which you must love 'serene-country living/green acres-fun."  It is a great suburbia with a decent law school that is constantly climbing (just like it's undergrad program, just surpassed UCI.)  The problem with UCD is, it's in the middle of no where, and even a great program that's not known by the state, needless to say, the country, will not bide well for you if you want to get a top job in a major city.  This is not to say you can't get that job, but it will take more work on the candidate's part.  A plus for this school is that the more recognized it's undergraduate program becomes, the more recognition it's law school will get.  Also, being attached to an undergrad campus offers opportunities that are not availabe at stand-alone schools.

2. UCH is a very competitve school.  My uncle is a recent graduate and he related a story in which a study guide was handed out by the professor, and the first person to get them ripped them up and threw them in the trash.  Thus, to survive in a world competing against your's truely, stanford/boalt, takes some drastic actions.  The streets infront of UCH are also full of trash, bums, and prostitutes.  So a fast "real" city pace and atmosphere.  UCH however has the edge of being located in the heart of SF, creating some real world post-law school opportunities at your doorstep.  It is in a prime location to get jobs.  Also the law school, even the lowest ranked of the UC's, has a good starting salary statistic, and is recognized nationally.  The education, of course, is top notch and business oriented, as an "undergraduate mind-set" is missing, creating a more "professional" environment.  My uncle now works in New York making the digits we all dream of.

3. UCLA has the worst traffic ever and it would give even the most calm person murderous urges.  Needless to say, UCLA has an amazing undergraduate program and law program.  I hear it is "more rigorous" than USC.  It does have a unqiue edge with entertainment law school, due to it's proximity to large entertainment firms via Hollywood.  I do believe UCLA has a great national presence, definitely stronger than both UCD and UCH.  UCLA also has amazing graduate departments, so if you're looking for an MA it would be a great place to get one.  The neighboorhood is also amazing (despite the traffic) it's a clean down town.  It is created to suit suburban living in a very compact downtown-like area.

4. Finally Boalt-need I say more? Great program, great IP, great international reputation, great city and also attached to an amazing undergraduate program.  You can't go wrong with boalt--unless cloudy weather gets to your summer-fun lovin.

All in all, UC's are great for Cali-kids because of the in-state tuition and of course, closeness to mom's home-baked cookies.

::fingers still crossed::

Great Job!  I hope to get into UC Hastings too!

Since you've been to Davis, could you tell me about it?  We all hear these horror stories about how it's "Serene" and I don't want killing myself as the only "activity" to do up in that suburb.

I really would love to be in SF also, the fast life with the city sounds really nice.  I currently go to UCSD, so I've been living this slow, suburban life.  It would be a really great change of pace!

Once again, good job--hope to see you there!  Unless your dreams are shattered and UCLA takes you.

YAY. I just got into Brooklyn too. Is Brooklyn Heights really that high? I have a fear of heights.

yay! happy brooklyn law acceptances!  Where else have you gotten into?

thanks for all the information!

i don't think brooklyn heights is very high, from a picture i saw, it seemed to be right along some sort of body of water  :P haha

yeah, i'm originally from an OC suburb, but really now, life is nothing like THE OC, but now i'm living in san diego going to UCSD which is just another suburb

..i need to get out of this suburb madness! yay fast new york!

so i'm assuming that brooklyn heights is also really fun w/ clubs and has eateries open all day and night?...because here in the burbs, everything closes at 7pm so that the old people can go to sleep...   :-[

haha thanks again!

Finally, after months of waiting, and being discouraged by the trend of fashion lately, most notably gwen stefani and her downward spiral into harajuku crazyness--which i can only compare to someone having been attacked by bears and thrown around a bit.

but yes, my first acceptance, Brooklyn Law School, two days after my first rejection

well it feels nice to finally be "going somewhere" ::cross-fingers:: i hope this is a sign that things will start perking up for me, although i'm not sure this is going to be reflective of gwen's fashion choices.

however, i've never been too brooklyn, i've only been to mid-town, so i was wondering if anyone could possibly help give me the low-down about brooklyn, as i am from southern california.  ny is one of my choice locations, and thus, i applied to brooklyn (yay), cardozo and fordham ...whereas the other three, let's just say:

britney:good fashion::me:other three

okay thanks for listening, and hopefully you guys can give me some insight into brooklyn law and the area around it! any help would be great!

Well congrats to everyone that has gotten into boulder!

I just put my application into the mail today--I had a fee waiver sitting around, and i figured i'd use it, because my other prospects are becoming more and more unreachable  :'(

that aside, i was wondering what the people in boulder were like--are they nice easy going people that don't have race issues...i may sound naive, but i'm from southern california and we're screamin liberals.

great job everyone again for getting in!  now throw me some of that pixie magic lucky dust

Snuvy, your GPA is awesome dude!  Someone with grades like that deserves to get into LS!  Good luck with all of your applications.

Thanks for all the support!

I guess the subject has been beaten to death, but the brightside is that i wasn't too attached to ND... I don't even know where it is  *laugh*

But this law school game is really giving me some indigestion.

yeah puss is quite cute

well, it's official, i hate notre dame

and doubly so because it was my first rejection and on valentine's day! no love...anywhere

who wanted to go to an anti-gay school anyway

this may not be appropriate to post here, but what the heck, i'm in a state of disdain:

what is up with schools being lsat whores, don't four years of hard work mean anything!

and clearly gwen stefani has had a break with reality during the grammy's...she's ruined something that i thought could never have been ruined, my favorite people and yours--pirates.

so much bad news, so little time to get wrongly accused of murder.
