I'm leaning towards OSU and just wanted to say "Hi!"

I've been in Ohio most of my life. I just don't think i can turn down the money for OSU.

I'm looking at places a bit north and west of campus. Looked at Grandview today.....nice place, very college-y, but not quite what I'm looking for. What else are you guys finding, and at what prices?

My fiance and I have looked at a number of developments along Kenny Road near Henderson and Bethel. We've been looking at all the 2 BR townhouses, most of which run in the 600-650/mo. Some of these places have standard apartments too (Governor's Square is the only one I can remember off the top of my head) but I don't remember what the prices were like.

I'm also joining the Moritz community this fall. Been living in Ohio my whole life. Nice state.

My fiance and I have seen a number of townhouses in larger developments (the kind that managed by one company and always have vacancies). Has anybody looked to rent townhouses/condos from smaller managing companies or individual owners? I ask because the layouts of all the places we've seen so far are kind of boring, and I don't think we're going to encounter anything different if we keep looking at these big places.

I agree.  Lawyers are represented as scumbags because most people cannot mentally comprehend the separation between representing a client and condoling thier behavior.  Most people are stupid.

Some lawyers of scum, but most get that rep b/c lay people are dumb!!

Along the same line, the circumstances under which most people encounter lawyers aren't the best (a death in the family, an arrest, etc.). When it comes time to pay the bills, people don't grasp how lawyers can be so "cruel" to demand a large sum of money at such a time.

Where should I go next fall? / Re: OSU Moritz / Columbus Housing

We've actually looked around at a number of townhouses already, most of which were in the NW part of town around Bethel and Henderson. The only reason I ask specifically about these units is that when I saw them, the floorplans looked really different and cool. We'll probably end up in a place we liked near Henderson and Reed since the COTA shoots straight down Reed into campus.

I also posted this on the Accepted & Decided Board, so sorry if you're reading it twice.

Anyone out there who is either heading to OSU or is from Columbus? My fiance and I have been looking at all the apartment listing websites trying to find a place. I could have sworn a few days ago that I saw a listing for some townhouses (2BR I think, possibly in the NE part of town) that had some cool split-level floorplan thing going on. Now when I look for them, they seemed to have fallen off the internet. Does anybody know about a place that comes anywhere close to resembling what I'm talking about? It's driving me crazy trying to find it again.

Maybe I just dreamt the whole thing up.

Where should I go next fall? / Billables on NALP Directory
« on: April 16, 2005, 05:11:15 PM »
I've noticed that a number of private firms in the NALP online directory report average associate billables that are lower than minimum associate billables. Anybody know if this is a mistake? Or if a lot of people just don't meet the requirement? Or maybe the average considers part-time associates which skew the numbers?

Plus, the reported hours worked seem quite low as well. Many firms I've seen report 2000 hours and the ones that are higher still report <2200. How reliable are these numbers?

That's great news! Congratulations!

So there is some legitimate hope. I was skeptical. I wish I knew how many alternates there are.

I actually caved and sent in my seat deposit yesterday. I hope that if they were to have more scholarships open up, my deposit won't cause them to pass me over to someone else  :-\

Sent in my seat deposit to Ohio State yesterday. I'm in state and they offered me a good deal of money. I had no $ from GULC and about 1/3 tuition from GW (which doesn't amount to much).

There are lots of other factors that came into play for me. To be brief, I'll just say I'm interested in public interest work and not really in a big firm. I'm also getting married this summer. My fiance and I felt that a large amount of debt would prevent us from living the life we want for about 10 years, which we were uncomfortable with.

Of course, they haven't really been following the timeline that closely. And they DEFINITELY didn't stick to the process they originally laid out (i.e., replacing the on-campus committee interview and the dinner with a phone interview). I keep telling myself there could still be a shot.

Oh well. Even without it, Moritz is still a good deal.

EDIT: Got the email around 5:30. I'm an "alternate." I don't know if they say that to everybody or not. My consolation prize is an extra $6K the first year, which is nice. Almost brings me up to full in-state tuition anyway.
