Law School Admissions / "Why School X?"
« on: October 09, 2005, 08:20:19 PM »
Ugh, I suck at sucking up to schools...I know it must be done, but I just stink at it.

I have to write one of those "Why do you want to go to school here?" paragraphs.  Its a great school and REALLY want to go there, but I just can't suck up.  Why can't I just say, cause you are awesome and I would get free rent/food, great networking opportunities, fabulous education taboot...I LOVE YOUR SCHOOL.  Why can't I say it just like that?  I can't make it sound "pretty."

Is anyone else having this problem?   :-\

Choosing the Right Law School / Re: With a 3.61 and 155 I could...

depends on region I guess.  Where are you looking?  I am from Texas, applying in Texas and hope to stay in all I can suggest is just that...Texas.  The numbers sound good for Texas Tech, may not have a part time program now that I think of it(tier 3), South Texas College of Law in Houston (Tier 4), OU (tier 2).

SMU sounds like it may be a great fit.  They aren't public and tution is mucho dinero but I think you could make it in.  Dallas is great too!  We have about the same numbers, with yours being slightly better than mine.  However, I don't have work experience and SMU is just a prayer for me.  Apply to UT never know.

Hope my very limited view helps.

Visits, Admit Days, and Open Houses / Re: CU, OU, UNM?????

I actually like NM... :o  but how is its reputation?  I looked on USNWR and it was top tier or close to it and i was suprised.

What about OU?

(CU and OU are Big XII schools...sadly, that does boost them in my eyes. :D I LOVE football)

What do you know about these schools?  I am from Texas and would ultimately like to practice in Texas, but I wouldn't mind living elsewhere for 3 years.  What areas are they best in/worst in?  CU is "ranked" the best out of them, followed by UNM and then OU (correct?) but I know next to nothing about them!

Anything would be useful.  Thanks! :D

Alright, I think I got it out to everyone.  If you didn't get it, just let me know and I will send it again.  (I may have sent it to someone twice!)

Thanks everybody for looking it over.  I will invite you all to my birthday party (which is coming up now that I think about it).   ;)

2 pages, entertaining, a good time will be had by all who read it   ;)

PM me or post here and I will send it your way.  Thanks!

Law School Admissions / "Transcript Analysis Data Not on File" ?????
« on: September 12, 2005, 02:08:09 PM »

What does this mean...besides the obvious of course.  I sent in one transcript from a CC I attended during summers and high school...why are my grades not showing up?

I haven't sent in my "main" undergrad transcript yet...could this be why?

Anyone want to give my PS a thorough once (or thrice) over?  I don't do a lot of writing, so there may be some big blunders in there.  Let me know if you want to, and I will PM it to you.

(I have to leave soon, so if you want to read it and I don't send it right away, then you will get it tonight)

Thanks guys!

Has anyone read this?  Is it any good?  I am reading it now and seems good...very, "GO OUT AN GET 'EM TIGER!"

How does it compare to the book by Anna Ivey?

Studying for the LSAT / Re: Study Schedule?

I don't know how much Kaplan would benefit me by taking it again...then again, I don't think I am in a position to turn down *free* help.  I think it was just the teacher didn't click with me.  He didn't do a great job of explaining things and I hear that some of their other tutors are much better.  I am going to go by there in a few days and see if I can get a private tutor for an incremental fee (since I have the option to audit the class) and not take the class.  Probably will get a "NO WAY!" as an answer, but you never know until you ask.   ;)

I plan on getting the bibles, I have "pirated" copies right now, but I like more tangible that chunk of cash will be gone soon.

I do think a big issue was time with me.  I have the endurance, but if I just had 5 to 10 more min. per section I would be great (and so would everyone else probably).  In the Kaplan course I learned how to ID the Q's and then ID the "classic" wrong answers.  The tough thing for me was choosing between the last two answers.  I would waste most of my time there with just two answers left.  My time management got remarkably better with LR, but it still stinks with LG.  I just need to read faster/retain more with RC.

For a little while I was just taking test after test, but I stopped doing that cause it was really beating me down.  I then worked on concepts and only took a full test every so often.

Hm...I think that answers what everyone asked me.  Thanks for all the input!
