Davis, Hastings, and Wisconsin are all close, but I would put them in the order that I just did.

Visits, Admit Days, and Open Houses / Re: My visit to Pitt...
« on: March 23, 2005, 01:54:30 PM »
If you were to visit the city two months from now, it would look completely different.  When you are just visiting, and the winter greyness is still in full effect, those buildings are definitely gonna look aged and old, especially in most of Oakland.  Otherwise, Pittsburgh has aged (overall) astoundingly well.  In terms of beautiful buildings/architecture, it's no Boston or anything, but it's definitely a city with architectural character, and not in the sense of "character" where one means "ghetto."

See some good pics here

And while 600 for a two-bedroom is pretty darn good, $700 isn't a surprise at all, but more the norm (excepting Shadyside and fancy/schmancy places).

There are plenty of beautiful women in PittsburgH, too, just don't expect them to have lovely speaking voices.   ;)

Where are you from, Mahoneit?  It would be unfortunate if one visit deterred you from a city adored by almost all who have lived there.

Hope those pics help a little.

Acceptances, Denials, and Waitlists / Re: Wisconsin or Tulane?

I would strongly prefer to live in Wisconsin than Louisiana, and I live in Louisiana.

1.  Aww, we've missed you Viva!

2.  Are you sure you won't come back to us?

3.  And congrats on Pitt!   ;D

1. Missed ya'll too, actually.

2. can't.  being responsible about school work, and I lost internet in my apartment.

3. thanks very much.  I remember congratulating you on several southern schools (emory, UGA W&M).  what did you decide on, I forget.

4. I read this  "I'm getting close to 4000 posts" as "i've lost close to 4000 pounds." but I have no idea why.  it reminded me of a "maya angelou" poem that amarain and I enjoyed very much last fall.

5. Obscure LSD references are my thing as an occasional old-schooler.

6. hey sej!

1.holy darn!!!  VIVA!! absolutely favorite ambiguous-gender poster! ya been?

1. well, thanks.

2. und ihnen?

3. (and you?)

4. heading to Pitt in the fall. very excited about it, too.

5. when I first came to this site, I whined about NOLA being way to hot all the time.

6. then it was nice for 4 months.

7. now the heat is back, and I've never longed for my homestate more.

8. best wishes to all of you.

1. Damn, this MF is still goin'?

Three points.  First, like Franz noted, you will make around 25k your 2l summer, possibly your 1L summer as well.  Second, if you work your ass off and manage to do well, you might be able to threaten to transfer, and be offered a scholarship if a higher ranked school accepts you (this, I hear, is the best/only way to change your scholarship funding after the initial award).

Third, just to be an as$, I will note that Pitt will cost me, max, 60k for all three years.  I am not worried about employment prospects, either.

You're gonna be fine, dude.

good thread, ya'll.  anyone care to keep it up for (at least) my benefit?

Sacramento is very nice, and far cheaper than DC.  Lawyers in Sac. go to wine country and the sierras on weekends.  those in dc, well, don't.  Davis all the way, were I in your shoes.

I'm also attending Pitt, and I am a PSU grad.  I think there will be more than a few of us.
