Where should I go next fall? / Re: Schools with bad names
« on: April 12, 2005, 11:49:21 PM »
actually, to alot of people in rural PA (like where I'm from), when you say "penn" they think you are talking about "penn college" aka the pennsylvania college of technology in williamsport (a 2 yr school)... i remember thinking that was pretty idiotic back in my college application days

"Where do you go to school?"

"I go to Penn"

"Oh, so is Joe Paterno coming back next season?"

"No, I go to Penn that is Penn State"

"Oh, where is that?"

:(

Where should I go next fall? / Re: Third Tier Toilets...

Jack and I became really close after the LSAT.  Bourbon or not, after about 18 shots or so you end up getting "asked to leave" local college town bars.

Next meeting with Mr. Daniels... post successful passage of the Bar Exam.

that would never happen to in MY little college town bars.  then again, my little college town is nawlins, whiskey capital of the free world.

and in response to the general theme of this thrad:  i had a sh*tload of fun in college.  and im not stuck going tier 3.  (my GPA is much worse than the person who started this thread.. grades arent everything in undergrad, at least they werent for me) ... however, i wont call t3 schools "toilets" cause i ALMOST had to go to one.  depaul wouldnt have been so bad, i dont think...

oh yeah and im going to keep having fun in college too, for the last few weeks anyway.  tuesday means one thing at tulane --- 50 cent night at the boot.  ill be out till sunrise and in a coma all day tomorrow.  if you see any posts from me tomorrow before sunset, be surprised.   ;)

oh my god, you almost had to go to a t3.  that must have been very traumatic for you.  at least you're not stuck going to Depaul.  some people....

did you miss the point of my post entirely, or just partially?

and now for my serious response:

live below my means for my first few years, pay off my loans (should only be around 30k cause i managed to save alot of my college fund by taking the ride at tulane), and then invest in real estate in developing countries.  booh ya.

just remember this piece of sage advice passed on to me by my roomates dad (CEO of a fortune 1000 corporation)...

if it Floats, Flies, or F*cks, its better to rent it.

:)

this man's a damn genius i tells ya...

Where should I go next fall? / Re: UGA decision time?
« on: April 06, 2005, 01:55:18 PM »
Yes, I know this is covered elsewhere, but the posts on UGA tend to be old (and for some reason rarely stay on topic....?)

I applied late January and I've kept up with the online check since then pretty continually. I was waiting for review for a long while, and a few weeks ago I went to committee for review. I know schools are starting to ask for deposits and all, so I was wondering when I could expect something from UGA?
Has anyone had any change in their status recently (maybe in march or april)? if so how long were you being reviewed before you had a decision?

SHould I wait, or should I give them a call to see if I could do anything (talk/interview, submit more...) to help?

sorry, getting anzious, thanks in advance

my app was in in december.  ive been listed on that status site as being up for review for at least 2 months now.  im thinking it doesnt look good.

Acceptances / Re: In at Villanova

dividedsky:  i hear you man on those crosses.  i've only been in church one time in my life for a wedding this past new years (i'm jewish).  i couldn't stop staring at the huge crucifix at the front.  it was mind numbing.  i also went over to loyola new orleans to take a diagnostic and noticed the crosses everywhere.  i'll get over it i think if i get in.  i really can't stand bible thumpers so i'm hoping its a laid-back religious atmosphere.  i'm not overly religious or anything.  my GF is catholic so i should be ok.

counterpoint:  my app must suck.  i am hoping to get into villanova yet i can't even get in outright to penn state dickinson.  i may need to revamp my PS in the upcoming weeks and hope that it's not too late.  hope to see you fellas there in the fall.

If you don't mind me asking, what was your PS about?  Your LSAT isn't sky-high or anything but your GPA is very solid, and LSAT still well within range.  I wouldn't argue that your app stinks per se, but I would definitely look over your PS for any obvious issue you might have missed.  If you spent your PS talking about why you want to be a lawyer then that could be the problem - though i have no reas.

yea man im a jew too.  i dont think i'd be the only one at villanova though... whichever one of you is actually going to the saturday program, keep me posted on large noses and such.  but i mean, like you, i think i can deal with it... its the best ranked school i'm in BY FAR... it seems like a stupid thing to let stand in my way, but i will know more for sure once i check it out in person

Half my family is jewish (dad's side so i know it doesn't count for you guys)... i still go to passovers, etc. but I'm also a confirmed Christian.. but haven't been to church for anyting but x-mas or easter or funeral or wedding since the day i got confirmed (interfered with my other religion -- skiing).  Anyway, i'm all about respecting peoples religious rights, but totally not into organized religion in general, but somehow i don't see this as an issue for villanova at all.  Then again, nobody mentioned the group prayer each morning before class.

I'll keep my eyes out for you and try to get a feel for the percentage of good catholics vs. heathens and agnostics.

group prayer before class????
more info please

anyone call villanova and find out any info about when they're mailing out new decisions. Granted I know people in the past said they call so I guess I assume i'm rejected by now?? Any info? :)

Here's some hope.  I got my acceptance a little over a week ago.  Other people have posted a deposit deadline of April 1, but mine said April 15.  I can't be the ONLY one with an extension.  Must be more recent admits out there, and no reason to believe there won't be more to come.
