I moved from rural PA to New Orleans for undergrad... it was definately a switch, but much needed.  I'm very glad I made the choice to come down here to Tulane and experiece something so unlike what I grew up with.  As for law school, I will go wherever the acceptances take me, but so far Chicago is looking like a strong option.  (DePaul w/ nice scholarship)   Los Angeles and San Diego are still in the picture too.  But I like change and adapt to it well.  Approach it with the right mindset and you will be fine.  (Umm, having the money to get settled into a nice place quickly will also be a big help i think)

Couple questions.  I have had no replys not even notification from any that apps complete.  How long did it take after report date on LSAC did it take for application complete notification and/or decision.  Also, for any of these schools how did they notify you of decision?  Should i be dreading an email or small envelope?  I think i might apply to a mental hospital while im at it.

Also, I scored 161 and have 3.1 GPA overall.  transferred after soph yr and have 3.5 GPA since at U of Wisc.  Will improved GPA help.  Also, any speculation would be great.

i got into DePaul with a 160/2.7 from Tulane.  still waiting on UMiami (and many others as well).  No rejections thus far (knock on wood).  You should be for sure in at DePaul. They even gave me a scholarship and i have a terrible GPA. I'm getting a little concerned not having heard back from miami  (roomate heard back already and his file was complete about a week AFTER mine) ... good luck, peace

i agree that lsu is very respected in new orleans.

it is funny you mention the joke about loyola.  it does have the dubious location of being right next door to tulane, so comparisons are sure to be prevelant.  however, there is a difference between loyola undergrad and the law school.  although i would choose lsu over loyola as well, loyola alumni roll deep in this city known for its glass ceilings, networking, and connections.

how could i prove it?  im not even applying to schools down here, so i wouldnt have researched them.  i cant even recite stats off-hand for the schools i AM applying to ... not that i wont do my research prior to making a decision, that is, if i have options (1 acceptance so far, but at least no rejects..)  anyway sorry if i claimed to have more hard data, i was just stating an opinion that i thought might be relevant

what about, say, just one D?  (havent had one yet, but, well, lets just say i have a class in mind...)

loyola alumni may roll deep here (which i believe you that they do), but trust me when i say LSU rolls deeper.  its something about the mentality down here, its unavoidable.  everybody just loves that school... but honestly, i think the reasons about the neighborhood/environment here are far more persuasive reasons NOT to spend law school in uptown new orleans than the reputations...

as someone who has lived in nola the past four years (tulane), one of the things i have noticed is the respect LSU grads get in this city.  tulane and loyola might be here, but LSU is the name to drop.  people here LOVE lsu... not just the alchys either.  loyola gets no respect, or maybe i just say that because i'm a tulane student and they're just that joke of a school next door.  oh yeah and if living conditions are any factor to you, all the apartments available to students anywhere near the tulane/loyola campus area is generally sub-par, old houses converted into apartments, have problems.. and crime is attracted to this area because of the cash influx the colleges bring.  i love tulane, but its for many of the same reasons i wouldnt even think of doing something as serious as law school in this neighborhood.  its hella fun, but its grimy and sketchy and loud, so yeah i guess thats a long winded way of saying i'd choose LSU over loyola any day

whattup everyone, i am new to this board and since yall seem to know what youre talking about, perhaps you can send me opinions on what you think my chances might be this cycle

so far, the only place i've heard back from is DePaul, where i'm in with total $24k in scholarship money  (pretty sweet for my first big envelope, imo)

still waiting to hear from (in no particular order): temple, villanova, cardozo, brooklyn, miami, georgia, florida, loyola (cali), USD, oh and penn state (not that i'd actually live in Carlisle... my days in rural PA are OVER)

graduating this may, Tulane BS Finance, 2.73 GPA  (yeah i know its pretty bad, clearly there are distractions down here in nola, which is the main reason i didnt apply to tulane law).  160 LSAT, president of fraternity, big firm internship in philly, solid personal statement and recs.  basically i feel good about everything except the GPA  (for which i unfortunately have no good explanation)

so what do yall think?
