1L job search / Brooklyn DA's Office
« on: March 22, 2006, 06:50:24 PM »
Anyone heard anything positive or negative about Brooklyn DA's office or what to expect interning at DA's office in general? Looking for an opportunity to learn a lot and also get clinic credit. My school does not give clinic credit for work in most private firms so that narrowed the list considerably. I have a lot of other letters out but started a little late and just think it might be easier to accept this and have that out of the way considering finals, brief, and orals are all coming up? What do you think? Oh I only have a couple of days to decide before they offer to someone else - and I doubt I will get any calls backs or interviews that quickly. So basically -- take it or don't and HOPE something else decent comes along?

General board for soon-to-be 1Ls / Re: Pets in LS?
« on: August 17, 2005, 06:24:54 PM »
I cannot even go out of town without calling my dog's daycare to check up on him every couple of days. He is a fat pug - who detests walks, loves to eat, snore, hog the bed, and pass gas...it does not get much cuter than that...no matter how hard my day is, it is impossible to be miserable with that mug around!

Wait List / Re: In off USC WL

Don't feel bad...according to his profile he has only been a member for a couple weeks. This makes me wonder if he is applying for next year...I have noticed that several of the new members are not as sensitive or patient because they have not gone through the process. I think you should stay positive and hopeful! As long as you do not bank on and acceptance and are ready to accept that it may not happen, I do not think there is any real harm in hoping. I almost gave up hope and got accepted to my first choice last week- So it CAN happen.

Don't worry about what other people say...there are plenty of us out here who identify with your frustration and wish the best for you! Good Luck!
By the way- I am sure you are being a great girlfriend but you need to be careful that you do not vent your frustrations out on your boyfriend...as much as it hurts you need to be supportive because you would want the same. If not, you run the risk of not getting into your dream school and losing your boyfriend (and I guess depending on your relationship) that could REALLY suck!

I did not apply to those schools, don't know your numbers, and have no clue when they begin classes, that being said:

1. Some schools have no choice but to notify you at the last minute because some people drop out at the last minute. Yes this is incredibly frustrating, but you need to decide what your deadline is. Are you willing to go to the last day? For some people this answer is no, because of moving, family, or financial considerations. If this is you, then I would pick a deadline for myself and get some things in order in case they call, i.e. research the areas around the school so that if you do get the call, you are not completely in the dark about the apartment situation. Find out about moving costs, and if you are in a lease right now, what happens if you have to break it. You will have to deal with these factors, if the WL comes through and at least you will know what you are in for.
2. I am sure you know this, but call, visit, or e-mail them. Say, I know you are busy this time of year but I am still very interested in your school and am willing to attend until the last minute. Ask if they have any idea if there will be movement (obviously they will not tell you for sure) but ask if they are still over-enrolled...if not, then that ups the chance of someone being pulled from the WL. If they still have more people than seats, hope is not over but that just means that many more people will have to drop the school before they go to the WL. If they are willing to tell you- your rank on the WL or even how many people are still on the WL- this may also give you an understanding of your chances. Don't be so pushy that it alienates them, but seem very interested in your chances.
3. You are on four WLs. I think this helps you because you have more than one opportunity working for you. Esp. since some of those schools are close together, people may opt to attend one over the other, and a space could open up.
4. Would you be willing to accept PT? It is not ideal but there is a pretty good chance if you keep your grades up, that you can transfer into FT after the first or second semester. Your opportunities are the same but you just have to be willing to make up the extra class. If you would, then call the school and notify them.

Bottom Line: I think you still have a chance. I got off my first choice WL two weeks ago, I had to accept PT but it was worth it to me because that was the school I had wanted since the beginning. I had a couple other acceptances for FT but I just had my heart set on Brooklyn and could not refuse. Movement is still going on...with a little flexibility and good fortune I think you stand a chance. G

GOOD LUCK!

Wait List / Re: NEED HELP!! BROOKLYN ACCEPTANCE!
« on: August 01, 2005, 12:11:03 PM »
Well- I was a little freaked out myself when I got the call last week because I had all but given up... but in the end Brooklyn was my first choice and I could not justify not going...but I already live close and did not have to move and my tuition payment for Hofstra was not due yet...if you think you can survive the money situation and hastle of getting to school then go to Brooklyn. I would only make the move if I was certain it was my first choice. St. John's is a really good school too and I have heard great things about their alumni networking...in addition to the money and transportation issues, are you hell bent on studying one kind of law and does one school offer more opportunity than the other. For me- that was one factor in changing to Brooklyn. I think you are in a good situation either way. Both schools have a solid reputation, and I am sure you will do well! That being said, COME TO BROOKLYN so we can have fun in the PT section! JK! Good Luck

I already live in Manhattan-so I will just keep my apartment...What do you think that you will do? If you aren't from New York and you need any advice (just went through the whole moving thing two years ago) I would be happy to tell you what little I know! I am so happy! I am really happy you got in too!

Wait List / Re: Rutgers-Newark Frustration!
« on: July 21, 2005, 04:49:28 PM »
Thanks, and neither did I. A guy posted on LSN today and that he was offered that a couple of weeks ago...so yes kind of frustrating! You are right...it has kind of bummed me out about them...of course once you are in you do not have to deal with them anymore...but it does make you kind of wonder if that attitude is prevalent in other administrative areas of their school. Good luck to you too!

Ok...I know other schools do it too but what is with schools randomly sending out acceptances to people who did not even care to apply to them and offer scholarship money, when they have a million people on the waitlist!!!! I was deferred then moved to wait list! When I call, they give me the run around (which I do not, as a rule, call much at all because I do not want to be annoying, only when I have a legitimate question) Well I know this is so bitter but I am so ready for this process to be over...Congrats to the person on LSN who got the offer....just wish they would wake up and see that they do not have to pay people to go there when there are people like me who want to pay THEM!!! oh well...it has been a bad week...sorry for the whining...just gotta do it sometime!
