Denials / Re: DING! Thanks for the Application Fee
« on: April 20, 2005, 04:14:05 PM »

1 - Applicant pool is up, so numbers have to be higher than two years ago. Sucks that you got caught in the cross-fire.

2 - The Admissions Director doesn't make the actual up/down decision. It usually goes to a committee of faculty, students, and/or deans. (S)he was probably telling you what (s)he thought was sound advice, but couldn't possibly predict how a committee would vote on your specific file.

3 - How did you get yourself a better GPA? Did you get another undergrad degree?

I would recommend not using a broker if you can help it.  Boston apartments are expensive enough without paying them a month's rent for 15 minutes worth of time.  Craigslist is okay, but I used (which is best if you're looking to live with a roommate).

I second the advice of going to, specifically the No-Fee Listings:

Wait List / Re: Requesting Interviews
« on: April 19, 2005, 12:11:08 AM »
i sent an email asking a school (houston) if i could come visit, and if it would be worthwhile to make appointments to meet anybody. they wrote back and said they were going to review all waitlist applications in a couple weeks and that if they wanted me to come for an interview they would contact me at that time. she didn't seem annoyed. i don't plan to push it anymore.

I just sent a waitlist follow-up email. After I hit the send button, I realized that I had...

5/10 - because you only have half of the picture. who's to your right?

Boston is a fun, exciting, sophisticated, intellectual hub, and upstate NY, well...  :-\

don't fool yourself... T2, T3, T4 are all regional school, so if you don't want to live in upstate NY, don't go to school there unless it is Cornell.

(unless syracuse has some specialty area that you are REALLY interested in)

some ask on the app.  i don't think they would know otherwise.

someone should tell your boss that he can attract more flies with honey... i just got another $4.5k salary bump.

if they keep this up, i am going to have to seriously consider putting LS off one more year.
