Choosing the Right Law School / Re: Harvard?
« on: March 01, 2005, 07:29:17 PM »
I went complete in late November, and still haven't heard anything. I think that, on balance, escaping the round of holds is good news. It'll be exciting when the first of the hold-dodgers gets a decision.

Hey Jessie-

Would you mind posting your findings/impressions after the event is over? Have a great time.

Incoming 1Ls / Law School Food
« on: February 28, 2005, 07:20:56 AM »
I wasn't sure where to post this, but hopefully someone here can help me out. I was just thinking that I have no idea what most law students do about food. At my undergrad college, graduate students are allowed to be on meal plan, but those who eat in the dining halls are typically the social outcast types. Does anyone know what the food situation is at NYU and Columbia, specifically? Do there tend to be cafeterias devoted to law or graduate students? Thanks.

Where are you (in the country)? When was the hold postmarked? Thanks a lot.

When was your hold postmarked? I wonder if they were all sent in one huge batch, or if they're being sent over a few days. Thanks.

You and I are in the same position regarding Harvard. I really thought that I would be deferred in this round, but it looks like I've avoided it. I wonder what this means...

Choosing the Right Law School / Re: Hold at Harvard...

Sorry about the hold... I'm expecting mine tomorrow, since my mail tends to lag by a day. Anyway, if (when?) I'm held, I plan on sending Harvard a "Why Harvard?" essay... writing something good and original won't be easy, but hopefully it will help. Beyond that, I'm not sure what else can be done. Good luck.

From what I've heard, being "held" at this stage isn't the same as being waitlisted. It's possible, for example, to be held now and then waitlisted in late March or early April. Judging from last year, a few of the holds will get in, and their odds at this point are better than those of the people who get WLed.

Acceptances, Denials, and Waitlists / Re: Ding at Penn

You might be right, Info. Still, it seems odd that both NYU and Columbia would accept me pretty early in the game while Penn wouldn't even waitlist me. Ultimately, though, the reasoning behind the decision isn't knowable.

I just got rejected from Penn after being deferred early. I obviously can't read Meeker's mind, but I suspect yield protection was at work here, particularly since I didn't write any of the optional essays (most notably the Why Penn). Anyway, both Columbia and NYU are higher choices for me, so I'm not really affected by the news.
