Wait List / Re: off the W & L waitlist today
« on: April 20, 2005, 04:18:37 PM »
(can we say we love upper east side?!? I can

I thought Fordham's law school was on the upper west, close to Columbus Circle and the Opera House, Julliard, etc....

Oh yeah, and Cornell really is that good.

Dear bobo,
While you had a point that I was dyslexic, and east was west, I am not sure that I agree with Cornell is that good.  I want to work in NYC, I'm not sure if Cornell is extremely better than fordham for nyc

allright, can we say yey west side.... I'm only slightly familiar with which portion of NYC is east and which is west (and actually which one is up and which one is down), but you're right it is next to columbus circle, and I personally love that area, a lot of amenities, clean, lots of good restaurants
(the reason i am only slightly familiar is because my boyfriend is from nyc, and i visit him a lot and go out with him, but never lived there to figure it all out on my own)

Yeah, I dont understand that! (the cornell over fordham) Who wants to be in ithaca paying huge tuition AND housing! (ithaca is not cheap due to cornell's good reputation)

I know Fordham makes it somewhat harder to get a job, but in my opinion not that much harder in NYC. (I intend to go for nyc and nowhere else).  Given that, and that I plan to work my pants off, and the 10K/yr scholarship, and only 10K/yr housing in one of the most awesome neighborhood around nyc (can we say we love upper east side?!? I can!), I just dont understand...  is cornell really THAT good?  I would have turned down fordham for: NYU, columbia, berkeley, stanford...

if you can, can you give me your opinion why you, or people you know, would have made the choice cornell over fordham?

Most people would pick Cornell over Fordham.  I am sure you had your good reasons.  Good luck to you.

I was also admitted off the waitlist today & offered 18K/year scholarship
(dependent on maintaing 3.0 gpa)  I promptly declined, good luck to everyone!

Where are you going at this point--Cornell?

Did you do anything to pursue W & L?

I am going to Fordham, already declined Cornell.

I promptly threw their waitlist letter in the garbage can and forgot about them, (i.e. did not pursue, just ignored and didnt realize that was implicit agreement to stay on the waitlist)

did she just say that usc (downtown los angeles) was in the middle of nowhere?

snobby little east coaster.... ;)

EDIT:   good point, I did say the middle of nowhere, and I did not intend to say that... allright, modify that to W&L in the middle of nowhere, USC at a location I was not as interested at being at as NYC

however, I am from california, not east coast, spent 10 years of my life in the bay area, and been down south on various escapades, even consider myself comfortable driving around la and its freeways (although i do NOT enjoy it)

I turned down Cornell with no money other than stafford loans for Fordham with 10K/year.  I am unconvinced that Cornell will offer significant advantages over Cornell, and their housing being only $10K yr is like, lower than cornell.  also unconvinced that when it comes to IP i'll have a better shot at a job from Cornell than fordham, rather feel that it might be the other way around (better shot from fordham, givne they have ip programs, rather than cornell)

oh yeah, and also turned down USC, (again no $, not even stafford loans! and in the middle of nowhere!!)...almost forgot about them, and W&L w/ 18K (gack, who wants to be where they are? i dont even knkow where they are, that's not a good sign!)

so, with a 3.56 undergrad gpa, masters, and 1.5 yr work experience in patent research/prosecution, how do I stand?

Wait List / Re: GULC priority WL
« on: March 23, 2005, 11:40:11 PM »
Got mine yesterday, now with that 50 out of 300, does this mean that they put 300 people on it, or does this mean that 300 people end up staying on the priority waitlist? That would make a great difference because I would imagine that if they only offer 300 people the priority waitlist, that a very good chunk of them will end up denying admission, no?

did your letter say priority or preferred??
