Job Search / Re: What are you doing this summer!!!
« on: May 30, 2006, 11:58:48 AM »
summer intern'ing with a sports agency company, and getting a taste of both representation and legal worlds, as they pertain to professional sports.

i've been doing a little research, a little marketing of athletes, "check in's" with clients, and a whole lot of nothing as far as technical documents or memos go.

which is nice.  ;)

look before you leap.  i know a few prof's at my school sometimes alter reading assignments from year to year, even when sticking with the same book.

i would recommend holding up and taking it in stride when the time comes, though i doubt you'll heed that advice having read your post  ;)

Current Law Students / Re: Why Library

i actually prefer the library.  maybe it's because i find too many "other" things to do in my apartment.  and i'm a sucker for ncaa football '06 on the xbox.

one of the biggest perks for me is there are always groups of people in the lounge firing around flash cards, hypos, etc.  i tend to learn a lot more when i can do "hands-on" things with the material as opposed to reading, and re-reading, and re-re-reading.

all personal preferences i guess.  if you feel you do your best studying and work outside the library, don't go  ;)

the majority rule regarding joint tenancy bank accounts is that during the lifetime of the parties, the presumption is that the joint account belongs to the parties in proportion to the net contribution of each party.

you can probably take it from there.

citibank allows you to pre-screen your eligibility.  i just did that, and was "pre-approved" so i went ahead and filled out the MPN.

Incoming 1Ls / Re: Which Laptop would you buy?

this coming from a lenovo x40 owner..

i'd go with one of the lenovo laptops.  i can't speak highly enough about mine.  is the machine only going to be used for school purposes, or will it double as a music/movie/web machine?  if the latter applies, you might want to stay away from the 12.1" screen.

i use my x40 (12.1") for school and some web surfing (usually done while in school), and i love it.

i had a few classmates who had dell's bite the dust during the semester, but then again i saw that happen to a number of different brands (excluding ibm, but then again there were far fewer of them).  warranty coverage is key, and i'm not talking about the "best buy extended" garbage.

honestly, any of those machines you listed will be fine for school.  if you're using it for more than school, go with one of the machines with 1gig of ram and a larger hard drive.  and as previously mentioned, avoid the 12.1" if you're using the machine outside of school.

you'll appreciate those brand new books even more in law school.  trying to ignore someone else's highlighting and notes played hell on my brain last year.

you can order new books online, too ;)

fwiw, a large number of my classmates saved money by ordering online.  i'm not sure where they ordered from though.

for me, and most everyone i've talked to, the money comes "too late."  my money wasn't available from my school until around the first week of classes, which didn't do much to help me with moving or anything like that.  even if the money is 'disbursed' to the school, your school may still grind the wheels in processing things and getting the refund check to you.  i'm sure this varied widely between schools.

i think i should clarify my post...

if you're referring to these 'new' federal graduate PLUS loans, i'm not sure.  i just received information on them today.  my above post outlines the steps that i took last summer, when acquiring private loans to tack on top of the $18,500 in federal money that i received.
