Studying for the LSAT / Re: How hard can it be to find a timer?
« on: March 30, 2005, 10:54:46 PM »
killjack,

it's nearly impossible to buy a silent timer, especially a silent wristwatch timer.  luckily, it's really really easy to make.

go to any local store and buy a $20 timex (i suggest timex because it's the kind i used and i know it works).  just get the basic one, don't waste money on anything fancy...

unscrew the 4 screws holding on the back cover and set the watch aside.   very neatly cut a piece of duct tape in a circle to fit the inside part of the cover.  the cover is in a square-ish shape with an indented circular part.  make sure the circular part is totally covered.

with the tape stuck on to the cover (i.e. non-sticky side facing the inside of the watch) replace the cover.  and waa-laa!

i don't know why it works, but it does.  and if you ever want the watch to start beeping again, just take off the duct tape.

good luck!

Laura,
Good move!  You've just lengthened the 'why vegans are awesometastic' list!  :)

Why in the world does GT keep extending its damn deadline if it cannot even accept the people who already applied?

michael, that's a question for the ages...

kerensky is not the only one.  quite a few people have said that georgetown is offering them a spot in next years class. it's not a deferral, it's an acceptance; just not for this year.

i venture to say that if georgetown makes me this offer (though i doubt they will) i will take them up on it...

Where should I go next fall? / Re: BC Financial Aid Awards
« on: March 28, 2005, 10:15:13 PM »
delta- did you apply for financial aid or did they just offer it??  that is, is that 8k/semester a merit based or need-based offer?  i ask because my decision is going to very seriously turn on how much schools offer.

to answer your question: 16k+/year sounds very nice.  is that 1/2 tuition?  2/3?

Where should I go next fall? / Re: Cornell Reserve List
« on: March 28, 2005, 07:03:07 PM »
i also got the letter. it said that certain people on the reserve list will be put on a ranked waitlist once the first deposits are due.   (or something like that)

"For Moo Cow-- I just quickly ran a nalp search about on campus interviewing. BC beats out Wash U big time (261 employers to 102)-- if I did the search correctly! That is a huge difference. If I knew for sure that I wanted to be in Boston, I wouldn't think twice...."

Karita- It is a huge difference, but WUSTL arranges extensive off-campus interviews (i.e. a weekend of interviews in NY, chicago, etc.).  although the difference between those numbers is huge, it may even out a bit once the off-campus interviews are accounted for

"moo cow: you have a boyfriend! gay people are so cute."

Snuvy- I can only assume you're talking about the guy next to me in the picture.  that slut is my EX-boyfriend!  (he cheated on on me with some intern)
